Beloved
☆ April 12, 2010
Every day finds me on my horse,
even if it’s only for an hour
to slip out the back gate
and race the two-track
to the base of the mountain
thundering down the deer trails we have memorized
until we both are panting.
When I’m on my horse, I can’t think of anything else
in the world
I need.

Isn’t that the truth. When you are out with your horse, if you have the right horse, you are part of something so big and so beautiful, it just blows you away.

I am jealous, yes I am. I want a horse and the land to keep it on more than anything at this moment! Patience is definitely a virtue that I need practice with.

Yesterday my daughter-in-law sent me a picture of my granddaughter horseback riding. She was using her great grandfather’s saddle. My Dad was a rancher & has been gone for 42 years. They had his saddle cleaned & repaired. It was a wonderful sight.I loved that saddle–the way it smelled– felt–I know Dad is smiling. He had lovely quarter horses. He felt about fine horses like some men feel about cars.Your horse pictures are a treat. They are right from my childhood. Thank You

I love your photography. I’m seriously loving this new site, as well – I’ve followed TDC (and bought the book!) for about three months shy of its lifespan. Thank you for sharing so much of your life with so many of us. Charlie is my daily moment of zen.
Happy Birthday to you & Charlie.

Amazing. I so miss my horse and our long rambling rides through the woods. He was a good boy <3

Exactly.

Oh my. You summed it up perfectly.
My horse lives in a relatively urban area, but just the other day I discovered a network of trails that lead to a giant field behind some houses. I’m itching to get out there and conquer my fears of my horse’s spookiness and just… ride. Urban trail rider I shall be!

Do you ever go bareback?
April 12th, 2010 @ 9:38 pm
Love bareback. Prefer it.

Maggie (or anyone reading!) ~ have you ever used a treeless saddle?

Beautifully, beautifully said! Horses are no longer a part of my life, but through my many child/teen years spent on horseback, your words ring true!

Beautiful.

The most beautiful and spiritual moments in my life have been riding a horse..nothing can compare with it..Heaven must have horses to ride..

Happy Belated Birthday to you, Shreve, and to Charlie.
When I am riding my horse, I tell people that I literally feel HIGH!! It must be all those endorphins it releases. This is my favorite quite: “My treasures do not chink or glitter,
they gleam in the sun and neigh in the
night.”
Yes, I’ve used a treeless saddle & I loved it. For one, I am very petite & they are light – like 11 lbs. And they provide close contact – the closest thing to bareback. But I bought a used Circle Y Park & Trail western saddle…I might want to rope and cut!

Your writing is so fun to read. I have loved horses since I was small and someday, some way I will be able to own and love one. So wonderful that people can enjoy their horses

Oh my God, thats exactly the way it is.. good thoughts and happy memories from my horse each time I see him. I am me with him that few others ever know.
