my new favorite place to write
is in my cast iron tub
under the leaves
under the sunset
under the moon and stars
submerged in heat
feeling the breeze above the waterline
lavender wisps in the mist
melting, smiling,
after days of digging
digging
shoveling
raking
pounding
carrying
loading rocks
and
unloading rocks
and
moving rocks
and
moving them again….
(a fantastic project I soon shall share!)
but right now the heat
the breeze
I melt.

Don’t know if you intended that as a poem, but if not, it could easily be. And a good one, too. Lovely imagery and mood.

You must be so buff from all this physical work! Have you ever written on how life there has physically changed you? (My apologies if you have and I missed it somehow; I *think* I’ve read all your posts, and your “Charlie book,” but then, three babies have claimed a lot of my grey matter….)

The best shower I ever took was on a geology field trip to Owens Valley, California. Our class stayed with an interesting character who likes to host groups, and to accommodate the crowds he installed an outdoor shower. It had sides made from old packing crates that were just tall enough for privacy, beneath the shade of a lovely willow tree. From the shower you had fantastic views of the Sierras to the west, the Inyo Mountains to the east, and the sweep of desert in between. Cleansing to the mind as well as the body!
