Socks = knocked off
☆ October 4, 2010
Wow, wow, and wow ~ thank you so much for the incredible support after my Summer 2010 post, via comments, personal emails, and your own telepathic replies. I’m speechless. Thank you.
Before I go into the story itself I wanted to address some of the questions left in the comment section.
I will not be displaying his photo, name, or contact info on my blog because:
a) those who need to know all that stuff, know it.
b) he’d probably sue me for harassment. *vomit*
I’ll be sharing some of the “measures of defense” I am implementing, but not everything. As one commenter put it, there are certain things I must keep under my hat :)
Thank you for all the offers to help ~ if something comes to mind I will definitely let you know. The massive support from you and from my community has left me in awe.
This has been hard on Mike, too ~ I’ve had to keep the reins very tight, if you know what I mean. But he has been a phenomenal partner through all of this. Our relationship catapulted into a whole other realm over the summer and is even stronger than it was. Sometimes I was particularly needy, sometimes I was withdrawn, and through it all he has been so patient and so solid. He’s incredible.
As are all of you.

It will all be okay. :) Such weak words for such a serious and frightening situation but I do hope the knowledge of the support immediately around you and all over the world brings comfort.

I wondered how Mike handled that. I know my Mike would prolly commit assault and battery for me in that case. Or possibly homicide. I wish the judicial system had been better for you, but I think your reaction is a good one. Protect yourself; you’re the only one who really can. The safest I ever feel is when I’m sleeping with my husband on one side and a loaded gun and hunting knife on the other.

We all know here that Mike is a good guy. Things can get out of control fast and I am glad he did not take the law into his own hands then. There is a time for that too though. I have a hard time thinking of it all, fear can be overwhelming and paralyzing.I always feared for Charlie. I never thought it would go that route. I have to go to Europe for a while and now the terrorists want to blow us up over there too…What a pain…Anyway, I will eat eclairs,Napoleons, control my fears and hopefully come back soon.

I was thinking about that this morning on my way in and if you haven’t already there is a book that will help you deal with this issue – its called “The Gift of Fear” if you have time its a quick read and packed with useful information. I know you are great at getting books and researching and finding solutions so I thought this was right up your alley. Once in my past I too had an issue similar to yours that book was very helpful….

Everything Is All Right
We love you, Shreve! I hope you are able to have some healing, restful nights in deep sleep with our best wishes all around you.
October 4th, 2010 @ 10:46 am
You are so very welcome, Shreve. I am so glad to hear that your relationship with Mike is still in tact, and even stronger than before. Sometimes, situations like this can tear couples apart. From what I have read of your relationship, you have each quite possibly found your soul mates.
Sending love to all of you~

While we may not be able to keep you safe from afar, rest assured that you are safe within our hearts.
October 4th, 2010 @ 11:28 am
You have two communities that support you; one composed of people you’ve met and see regularly, and one composed of people you haven’t. Comforting that you may draw strength from both. Stay safe, stay strong.

Hey girl, you are so special, how could we not rally around you.
October 4th, 2010 @ 12:09 pm
Ditto what Brandi says…. I don’t know you personally but I know you humanly if that makes sense (it does to me anyway). I am just now reading “The Daily Coyote” and am enjoying it so much. I’m sorry people intend to deliberately hurt other people whether in person or the cowardly anonymous internet way. You have handled it all so graciously. Keep you wits about you and you’ll be fine. Thanks for the blog & photos…

Needing support and being needy are two different things. You are the former, never the latter.
We’re here for you.

Thanks so much for the update. As for “socks knocked off”, now you can go play barefoot in the mud w/Chloe! Foot rouge may be just the “spa” treatment needed today.
My favorite phrase ever is “ALL WILL BE WELL”, and I hand it over to you, wrapped in prayer, dipped in courage and filled with truth.
How challenging for your community, especially Mike, to know how to approach this challenge, but I have never EVER met a small town cowboy community, especially in Wyo, that shrank from a challenge. Good sense, courage, numbers… and good aim. Seriously fierce power there.

You rock! Solidly! :)

You’ve shared so much with us, we feel you’re family.
What you’ve shared with me has helped me change my outlook and parts of my life and it’s made me so much HAPPIER. Stay well and stay independent and strong SS!

Stalking is terrorism at its most personal level. I wish the laws treated it that way. I’ve been surfing to find places where we might find voice toward getting the laws enhanced. But with the laws or not, community is the best comfort and strength. And your community loves you dearly, Shreve.
October 4th, 2010 @ 2:53 pm
You make others so happy and inspired it is no surprise at all that we all want to help you and make sure your safe!!

My wife, four children and I live a mile from the nearest neighbor. We knew when we moved out here that the police would only be good for clean up duty. My wife can shoot as well as I. We’ve had a couple of incidents with rouges that didn’t know anyone lived out here. The dogs (two pits) are a better deterrent than anything. Even though they are really big babies, they look wicked and bark fiercely. Be ever vigilant and investigate anything that doesn’t smell, look or sound just right. Don’t be paranoid, just observant. Your animals will tell you also… if you listen. Good luck, God bless and keep on going.
October 4th, 2010 @ 7:18 pm
I am so sorry to hear that you went through this. Did the police determine how le creep found out where your home is? Take down any street signs. :)
October 4th, 2010 @ 7:34 pm
i just read that wasp spray can blind someone when you shoot it from 10 ft away…
October 4th, 2010 @ 8:35 pm
So glad that you’re doing well Shreve, and we all love you! Look to the farmily for support!
October 4th, 2010 @ 9:05 pm
What a nice post. I actually hope you don’t share any of your security plans with us – all we need to know is that you’re safe! Mike sounds like a great person and it’s nice you had someone close to help you through this. And you’re right about the harassment claim – sadly…..
By the way, saw the 3 year anniversary pics on Charlie’s site – so sweet, just melts one’s heart! Hard to believe he was that small. : )
October 4th, 2010 @ 9:10 pm
Don’t ever doubt your ability to be amazing, because you are yourself (you follow your dreams and your heart). If you were anything less there wouldn’t be thousands of us who are inspired by you on a daily basis.
So sorry that your world has been shaken up. But I am glad that you and MC are able to grow closer and stronger, that you understand your community supports you, and regarding the rest of us in cyber world, that we do see the light that you continually shine and that we will continue to follow your journey through all of the valleys and peaks that you are willing to share with us.
Just don’t forget to take time for yourself as well!
October 4th, 2010 @ 11:24 pm
I always stop by here but I couldn’t write before. Struck a chord, I guess.
You sound STRONG. Although I know that you must not always feel that way…
Just wanted to add my voice at this moment, let you know there’s one more gal appreciating your stance, your blog presence and of course, all that you’ve done/do for Charlie.
October 5th, 2010 @ 7:27 am
We adore and love you from afar, Mike has you in his arms; how could he not want to protect the precious woman who has helped him in so many aspects. I know all too well about the “tight reins”, been the done that, did NOT want the shirt.
I remember one reader posted that maybe you shoudn’t reveal your “measures of defense”; I agreee, we dont really need to know, and if that person is still monitoring you, that could be information usable by him.
I remember when Charle had parvo and we were finding out in “lag time posts”; all you had to do was break in “real time” to let us know he was alive and well (still brings tears to my eyes remembering those awful days).
We all continue to keep you in our thoughts Shreve.
October 5th, 2010 @ 8:00 am
Shoot. Take care of yourself. Guess this is another monumental undertaking you’ll have to deal with! Really stinks…I know you’ll handle it with the grace you usually display. My guy asked me why that guy was stalking you and I said, “How would anyone know what goes through a moron’s head like that?” Stay safe.
October 5th, 2010 @ 8:12 am
I’m still working hard on my plan to get that sonofabitch into a very tight enclosed space with Sir Baby, a very protective Daisy, and Ranger. Oh Yes. Mustn’t forget Ranger.
Stay safe, Shreve. your post filled me with dread. At least you are aware. I hope the town (who I know loves you too!) just runs his sorry ass out of town.
October 5th, 2010 @ 8:22 am
Give Mike a hug from us for being incredible. It’s good to know that you have a strong support system there, and FWIW, you have a strong cyber family here. Keep you and your farmily safe!!
October 5th, 2010 @ 9:06 am
i’m really glad (tho not surprised!) to know your local community is fully behind you – so good to have more eyes & ears & strong hearts. you’re handling things with the healthiest combo of a range of emotions & considerable sense, both equally important to staying well thru this. good on mike, too – your relationship seems to be one of the good ones, where each person feels they’re the lucky one!
October 5th, 2010 @ 11:57 am
Just keep staying strong. You are so inspirational to many including myself and I know that many of us who follow your posts could only dream of living the life you lead.
You have been in many thoughts and prays since your September 2010 post.
Lately I have been reflecting a lot on life and just how short it is. It got me thinking about gradually making and writing a bucket list. Do you have a bucket list Shreve?
All the best!
October 5th, 2010 @ 3:11 pm
I’m with TT. I don’t think you should share ANY of your security plans publicly. I don’t even think it’s a good idea to share the story of what happened. Wouldn’t the obsessive moron just get some kind of weird encouragement by becoming a recurring topic of your blog?
October 5th, 2010 @ 5:35 pm
Very glad that you are taking sensible measures to protect yourself but not letting your injuries (in the mental sense) rule you. Please extend my thanks to Mike for his supporting you.
SC (comment 18) said it pretty well: be observant but not paranoid. As you already know, your animals are fine examples of that.
I am grateful for your willingness to share your life, both the good and the bad. Again, I hail your courage. Stay well.
October 5th, 2010 @ 5:44 pm
No surprise that you have your community behind you and soooooo glad that you are staying strong. You & Mike are SUPER strong and will weather the storm. Hang tough Shreve. xo
October 6th, 2010 @ 12:02 pm
Like so many others, I also thought of Mike’s feelings. I’d bet big money that he wanted to handcuff your hand to his & thus have you never leave his sight and his direct protection! Secondly, I bet he (not so) secretly wished for a scenario where he could honestly claim ‘self-defense’, with the end result being a stalker in need of nothing other than a place to be buried. (Or maybe that is just what *I* wished for!!).
Actually, I suppose he must STILL feel that way unless ya’ll are 100% certain that this deeply disturbed excuse for a human has left WYO forever.
Internet love to you and yours, both biped AND quadruped,
tm

You are one in a gazillion Shreve…thank you for allowing us into your Technicolor world. <3
October 9th, 2010 @ 12:47 pm
Others are right, keep your security secrets, secret. (just tell Mike so he doesnt fall in a hole or something!) Take care of yourself Mike and the Farmily.
If I can help in any way let me know.
October 9th, 2010 @ 8:33 pm
Go Girl..! you’re moving on…and give Mike a High-Five…you’ve got a rock there !
…like I said earlier…”this too shall pass”
of course things will never be the same…they will be better..!!!!!
October 11th, 2010 @ 11:44 am
Good for Mike, a team of two can certainly conquer the world given the opportunity. I’m glad you didn’t have to face this on your own.
I know this story is difficult to get out, but another “update” that would be fabulous is if people who “need to know” know where he is…I think we’d all feel a lot better if we knew that this sicko wasn’t making a claim for rights to plop right down in Ten Sleep. Hopefully he hitailed it right back to where he came from, crossing my fingers!
October 30th, 2010 @ 6:43 pm
Hugs Shreve! So glad you have Mike by your side (or leaving you alone, whatever the mood dictates!) :)
Thanks for being so incredible. I can’t really say it better than anyone else already has.
