Q & A Sesh!

☆ December 12, 2010

OK, so, yeah.  I’m totally neglecting this blog right now.  I have a reason, though:  I’ve been working on a new project and it has me obsessed.
OBSESSED!!!
And I am so deep in this one part of my brain
(the visual yet mathematical part – is there such a place?)
it’s been really difficult, nay, impossible, to travel back to the part of my brain where the words live.  I have several half-written posts but…….
Yeah, they all end like that last sentence ended.

So I thought I’d try out a little Q&A sesh, something I rarely do.
Got a question for me? {the randomer the better}
Leave it in the comment section.
And then I’ll try to answer them in as few words as possible.

Hm, the obvious question of course is: what is the new project?!

But since I assume you won’t answer that one until you are ready…do you have a favorite holiday tradition?

I’ll resist asking you what project has you so obsessed and will instead ask you the following ageless question: do you prefer cake or pie?

What kind of shampoo and conditioner do you use? Aaaaand does mike like fruity/food smelling candles and soaps like most other guys out there? (I prefer natural and floral scents like lavender, cinnamon, oatmeal milk and honey..)

I’m with Terry, I was wondering if the project was your spinning. I would love to see some spun Charlie and/or Chloe hair. But wool is of course the natural place to start. Alpaca would be WONDERFUL!

You talk about books so often, but never (in my memory, could be mistaken!) mention music. Does music hold a significant place in your heart, and are there any die-hard favorite groups/artists whom you will love forever and always?

No question; simply a response to your comment on boots vs. shoelaces. Just yesterday I was wondering why I couldn’t find shoes I can stand to put on my feet! Flip-flops only work for a few months in CO, and everything else requires sitting or bending for tightening and tying laces, heavy pulling, or velcro pulling apart w/the straps flopping all over the place as I fall out of my shoes mid-stride, etc. All of this aggravation just when I’m primed to head out the door. I swear, on my death bed I’ll be saying “I never found a good purse or the perfect pair of shoes…” :)

I recently started drinking my coffee with honey in stead of sugar. Got the idea out of your book of course. :)
Now everyone around me thinks I’m crazy – tea with honey, ok, but coffee, what the…?! I try to tell them how good it actually is (and so much more healthy than sugar of course), but no one is willing to give it a try. If not for reading this in your book more than once, I would have reacted the same as everyone else does..
So, here’s my Q: Did you invent the combination, or are we Europeans such a strange people? ;)

Have you seen any aerial events in your time in areas of low light pollution? As an example,my mother & I one summer in 1951 were sleeping outside on an uncovered second floor porch in Rosebud,SD.We enjoyed watching shooting stars,IDing constellations etc.Once we saw a silent explosion. It started as an expanding ball that turned red, purple & yellow. It burst into a hugh cloud that faded in a few minutes. We were never able to find out what it was.

What about the Gaucho with the green boots ? No more sighting of him in the blog ? Will Monsieur Ricardo run for Mayor on the farm ? Will Ellie settle down and marry feral Kitty girl ? Will Daisy knit a sweater for Frisco so he does not get sick anymore ? Will she get a new hat soon ? Will Mike finally turn around when you take his picture so we can check out the blue eyes? Will Charlie make his singing debut on a CD soon ? Will Chloe get pregnant ?
When is the next video coming ? And I drank too much coffee again.

I’d like to do a road trip through a bunch of states, including Wyoming, next year and I figure you probably know of some interesting places that aren’t necessarily well known.

    Your Name
If you’ve already answered this, I apologize.
What is the origin of your name? Is it common in your family or another culture?

I’m not sure you’ll have an answer for my question, Shreve.

When I read this post, my mind filled with a most vivid image: a meadow filled with the hardy plants of our desert state, but all green with the frantic quickening of spring. Rain has just gone through, and a late morning sun has burst through the clouds, turning the drops on each plant to emeralds and rubies and sapphires. It smells of water and fresh plants, and a hawk cries as it wheels in search of who might be venturing out for a drink. Here, right in front, is some tall and wild daisy, the flowers neither blue nor purple but some color between them, some with faces turned toward the sun holding all the secrets of life in amethyst mirrors, and others looking down as if to admire their glass slippers before the spell expires and they disappear.

…what does it mean? Why do your words here bring me such an out-of-season and unrelated vision? Why does it make me feel happy and hopeful?

    Random?

    Numbers?

    OK.

How tall are you in inches?

    What size are your feet?

How many inches around is Daisy’s neck?

    How much does Chloe weigh?

    And a non-number non-random question:

Have you finished Catching Fire and Mockingjay yet?

Oh, and how is the crocheting and knitting coming?

I was just wondering about the stalker case myself, but I’m sure it will come in due time.. and on the question of your name- I seem to remember it’s a family surname? Either way it is a pretty cool name in my opinion. =) I also would like to know if you miss the cabin, since you live in a polebarn now, right?. Also, is the polebarn on your own land? Is it one or two stories? Does Charlie have a bigger enclosure now?

Knowing you love honey – have you ever heard of Manuka honey? It’s strictly from New Zealand where there are Tea Tree flowers. The honey is harvested from the bees who pollinate these flowers therefore it’s got natural antibiotic & healthful properties. Expensive but…

How do your parents feel about your self imposed isolation from the family? How often do you visit with them? I understand when you said you were born not needing those family connections but I just wondered what they think.

Are you still living in the rental house with the fence or back in Mike’s cabin?

Have a Merry Christmas to you and all the bloggers here!

As you’re a fence- and home-builder and all-around handywoman, do you have a favorite tool; a screwdriver, utility knife, or claw hammer that you tend to carry around and use for lots of things?

I have a small multi-tool that I use quite a bit, and some well-worn hand pruners. I use the latter almost daily, from trimming shrubbery to cutting through roots to shaping hedges.

I, like so many others, follow your blog as a way of dreaming about the possibilities of my own life if I only had an ounce of your courage. I find the “practical” aspects of fully following the dream too daunting. So, I’ll ask the question, while anticipating that it is far too personal for you to share…how do you support yourself? Clearly your books, the blog and farm-hand work help — and you clearly live in a modest manner. However, it all seems so tenuous. What about health insurance? Retirement? What if work dries up for a season? Or you break a leg and can’t work for a while?

I believe that we as a society put way too much emphasis on financial and material prosperity…but have you been able to find a balance between financial security and living your dream?

I’d also like to take a moment and thank you for your blog. It serves as a constant reminder to me to follow my heart and my dreams…and while it may take me a while to fully realize my dreams, you continue to be an inspiration. Thank you for sharing your life with all of us.
