Hey Baby!

☆ March 1, 2011

first calf of 2011
The first calf of 2011 was born the morning of the last day of February…. which marks the beginning of an exciting time of year full of CUTENESS and BABIES!  This calf also happens to be the first of Sir Baby’s babies, born to a heifer (first time mom) without stress, strain or incident.  Hurrah!  Much of the ease of birth, particularly for first-time heifers, has to do with the bull.  A cigar for Sir Baby!
And a cozy, sun-filled spot in the corrals, thick with straw, for mama and baby.  Daisy, the den mother, awaits!

Great picture! Why does the father have something to do with how easy the birth is for first-time moms? Does it have something to do with the size of calves he sires?

On second thought, did Sir Baby hold her hoof and coach her in breathing through the contractions?! LOL

Since this is Janet day, I must comment.

What a beautiful photo! Love the background. And they appear to be walking so purposefully.

I was wondering why the father has something to do with the ease of birth as well??
Great pic you are truly blessed..

Congratulations on the new addition! I’m also curious about the effect of the sire on the ease of birth?

I think the, ahem, size of the father might be what helps make the birth easier. I’m not sure but it’s my uneducated guess, hah! I’m curious to know too.

Anyway, congratulations on the arrival of the sweet little calf!!

Oh my gawd, this is so cute! Around here, the local cows are just beginning to calve: every time I drive into town I see the little bovers hunkered down in the fields next to their mamas. One of the sure signs that spring is, indeed, on its way!

Congratulations to Sir Baby on his offspring.

Congrats to Sir Baby and momma (what’s her name?). Is it a young lady or a young gent?

Have been busy lately and have finally got some time to check up on your farmily. Of course I have lot of reading to do to catch up on things like …
    When is Daisy due?
How is Frisco, I presume he has had no further problems?
And Eli? And Ricardo? etc etc etc

wish i could explain why, but i have happy tears welled up in my eyes. perhaps it was the phenomenal photo that touched my heart, maybe it was knowing momma was well taken care of and not strained or stressed, maybe it was your excitement being contagious, but all i know is i really appreciated this post.
life, she is glorious. oh happy day!
