Moonbath Multitask
☆ March 15, 2011
These days, I have had zero time for unadulterated relaxation. Between cows calving and EMT class in high gear and that thing called work and animals to attend to, I’ve taken to mixing respite and responsibility in equal portions ~
an hour spent stretched out on my bed (reading my EMT book), romantic dates with Mike (while feeding cows).
Last night, I prepared to do some much needed writing whilst soaking in my steaming hot, deluxe outdoor cast iron tub. I rigged up some nice pine boards as a sturdy shelving apparatus to keep my laptop dry and a glass of wine and essential oils within easy reach.
When I slipped in, chin deep under the stars, I closed my laptop; ignored the wine. I sank into unadulterated relaxation. The sky darkened to deepest indigo, and stars glided toward distant horizons, and the steam curled the loose tendrils of my soul, restoring buoyancy, sending them free.

Well if THAT’S not the greatest thing ever, I don’t know what is.
March 15th, 2011 @ 10:16 am
Awwwwwwww I can feel it, smell it, hear it. Thanks for my little mental vacation during this crazy work day! :)
March 15th, 2011 @ 10:19 am
THAT’S the life!
March 15th, 2011 @ 10:26 am
You take me back to my honeymoon — we went to a Japanese bathing resort and soaked at night under the stars in the volcanic hot springs. So, so wonderful! You have a fantastic talent for creativity in your daily life — you’re such an inspiration!

Glorious. If you could only bottle that…your own Rescue Remedy.
March 15th, 2011 @ 10:53 am
Aaaahhhh, bliss! Also a great guided meditation! Thanks for taking us along!
March 15th, 2011 @ 11:08 am
That equals so much awesome! Do Want.
March 15th, 2011 @ 11:15 am
sounds like heaven! i have a tub just like that in the garage, maybe i need to put it to a better use?
March 15th, 2011 @ 11:18 am
Bathing in bliss…my kind of heaven on earth.
March 15th, 2011 @ 11:32 am
Do you bath where Charlie is? Does he nuzzle you over the edge of the tub? I can just picture Eli sauntering along the rim…
March 15th, 2011 @ 12:07 pm
I want those stars.
March 15th, 2011 @ 12:14 pm
Wonderful… Reading your posts and seeing Charlie in my inbox really takes me away on a delightful little trip. Someday I’ll have stars to sit under in cast iron tub. Even if they’re only metaphorical.
March 15th, 2011 @ 12:43 pm
That looks absolutely heavenly!
March 15th, 2011 @ 12:43 pm
Now THAT sounds like heaven. I have finals this week, so even though I don’t have an awesome tub outside, I will probably take a wonderful lavender bath come Friday. ^^
March 15th, 2011 @ 1:15 pm
Well-earned and well-indulged.
March 15th, 2011 @ 1:41 pm
What you need is a sauna.
March 15th, 2011 @ 2:00 pm
I LOVE this – the tub outside and date night! Some of the best date nights my sweets and I have are so far out of the mainstream, it’s what makes them so memorable.
March 15th, 2011 @ 3:07 pm
Reading that was better than just about ANYTHING…….so relaxing.
March 15th, 2011 @ 3:39 pm
Nothing like a good soak under the stars!
March 15th, 2011 @ 5:01 pm
I really need to get me a tub for my backyard. *sigh*
March 15th, 2011 @ 6:01 pm
So glad you closed the laptop. The intent to do some work is admirable, but happy to hear you didn’t follow through.
Thanks for the visual…that is therapeutic all by itself.
March 15th, 2011 @ 6:27 pm
I feel slightly more relaxed after reading that. BTW, can you tell us where the sexy-sounding phone rep is? I want to here his voice!
March 15th, 2011 @ 6:41 pm
I’m jealous! I want a big ole cast iron tub outside!
March 15th, 2011 @ 8:13 pm
After seeing this post, I so NEED a bathtub outside.
March 15th, 2011 @ 8:14 pm
LOL # 6 Sandy, my feeling exactly.
That last sentence was so lovely and poetic.

I am moving to Houston, Texas this summer from rural West Virginia. The sky is one of the things I am going to miss the most. I have already found places to run away to that are about 30 minutes drive from the Houston area that I plan on going to every few weeks to just stare up at space.

A romantic date while feeding the cows. My goodness.
When I went to school at New Mexico Tech, after exams, I would take a desert road east out of the Rio Grande valley for about 20 minutes out of town, build a little fire from scraps of mesquite and cottonwood bushes, cook dinner, and watch the sun go down.
What struck me the most was how utterly quiet it was. No interstate, no birds, no bugs, and no trees for the wind to blow through.
March 15th, 2011 @ 11:45 pm
Oh wow. Thank you! I felt like i was there! You are so lucky. I desperately want a tub outside. I need to see if that is possible!
March 16th, 2011 @ 2:50 am
That sounds like HEAVEN.
March 16th, 2011 @ 6:36 am
Oh, how wonderful..Now that’s what I call relaxing under the stars..I love to moon bathe, but I don’t have a outdoor cast iron tub. I just go out on the deck in the moonlight..although your way sounds like heaven to me!!
March 16th, 2011 @ 7:10 am
Bliss under the Heavenly skies!
You sure deserve it. :D
March 16th, 2011 @ 8:50 am
Relaxing under the stars in a warm tub – WOW, sounds like heaven!!
#30 – Kaelie, I live in Houston (well actually Magnolia which is north of Houston). Summer is the worst here because it is so hot & humid. June, July & August are the warmest months here – the rest of the year is nice. It has been absolutely beautiful lately. I want to welcome you to Texas!!
March 16th, 2011 @ 9:07 am
Sigh…I already feel more relaxed.
March 16th, 2011 @ 9:16 am
My biggest envy is that it is warm enough there for you to bathe outside!! Send some north please (although I’ll be complaining about the heat in the summer most likely).
Must say the two pictures you took of Charlie in Dec. show that he has matured into the most handsome guy ever, wonderful coat and such wisdom in his expression.
March 16th, 2011 @ 11:16 am
OK – where does that hot water come from? I’ve always wanted a hot tub out on my deck….
March 16th, 2011 @ 12:23 pm
CeeJay ~ LONG hose, connected to tap indoors! :)
March 16th, 2011 @ 3:07 pm
This might be one of the most beautiful posts I’ve read…aside from the ones written about your farmily I’ve grown so fond of! :)
This post, however…leaves me absolutely overwhelmingly jealous that I cannot have a cast iron [claw foot too?] tub out under the stars, here on Long Island.
March 16th, 2011 @ 11:52 pm
hmmmmz… a laptop and a tub of hot water. so this is your year of living precariously, lol. i once spilled a coke on my laptop and well.. it didn’t really like that. so to honor you multi basking i have decided to write w my laptop while in my tub (with no water) fully clothed. i will just wait till later for the moon to come out. baahaaaa! ewwww! not sure if i’m doing it right.. hmmmz
March 17th, 2011 @ 7:46 am
OK – long hose and a tub – I might be able to afford that!
March 17th, 2011 @ 9:24 am
@Marg, oh I know about the summers! I’ve only been there during May-August and for 2 weeks in December for the past 2 years. I can’t wait to experience the in between! I’m actually moving to Kingwood – so I figure you know where that is. I can’t wait! It’ll be a nice change from the temperate climate and the snow.
March 17th, 2011 @ 10:22 am
looks like paradise. i love the steam in the second shot.
March 18th, 2011 @ 10:09 am
Juxtaposition of white light of wireless computer on barnwood tray spanning outdoor tub, soft white light spanning horizon just below darkening Wyoming sky, bare trees in middle of nowhere… surreal.
March 18th, 2011 @ 9:17 pm
Ohhh… have been wondering how you filled the tub. So glad you have the means to let hot water dribble into the tub once you’re in so you stay warm under cool Wyo skies. I’m afraid I’d have to wear a life jacket for fear of relaxing right to sleep. :)
Does Eli visit and lounge on the tray spanning the tub? Have never known a cat who wasn’t amazed by a full tub. Of course, he may have to feign indifference just to maintain his studly reputation…
March 19th, 2011 @ 8:09 pm
Perfect……………..
March 21st, 2011 @ 6:06 am
Oh that sounds amazing!!! Shreve, I am so glad to see you are doing well. Things have been insanely busy on my end and I can no longer access your site from my work computer but I will be signing up to get Charlie in my mailbox. I look at Charlie on my calendar every day and think of you. Many hugs and blessings to you and your farmily!!!
March 21st, 2011 @ 9:43 pm
Awesome! :)
March 25th, 2011 @ 3:25 pm
I had a hot tub at my house in NC and loved sinking in it up to my chin on clear winter nights. I wouldn’t even turn on the jets so I could just hear the wind in the trees and watch the stars while my body relaxed in the hot water….oh, how I miss my hot tub.
