It’s like a soft, cuddly island in a sea of rough edges.

Gardenqueen – I just noticed your comment – and I’d like to add that she’s living quite a ways from even a slight resemblance to suburbia, where most of the feral cats wreak havoc on the birds and other small animal life. More than likely, the kittens will be gobbled up (sad as it sounds) by any number of the predatory animals living out and around her area. If she can catch the females, then definitely get them neutered, but they may well all get wiped out before they have a chance at reproducing.

Gardenqueen, my daughter has a BSc and an MSc in zoology and animal behaviour, so I believe her when she tells me that human beings contribute more to the decrease in songbirds and reptiles than cats do. A study was done in the UK that proves that. I have three cats and hundreds of birds visit my garden from lots of species, including a pair of rare fire crests last summer.

Lovely composition, Shreve. The contrast between two textures that my hands know so well… there is no soft like Kitten Soft :)

Put me instantly in mind of the kittens I’ve touched, and the rough oak logs I would carry from the big pile to my grandparents’ wood bin when we visited them… The smell of weather-cured oak is another I will never forget.

Is there a chance that some kittens are Eli’s kids?

Shreve – You need to catch the babies before they get any older and put them in a cage and then hold them each day so they will be tame and not feral cats. Usually only takes a few days to tame depending on how old they are. They multiply like crazy so I would get all fixed including mama kitty. Kittens are so cute and sweet to snuggle with….

YIKES!!! Yes, it’s an INCREDIBLY sweet pic of an incredibly cute kitten…but my first instinct is to reach right out and grab her before that whole damn pile of wood avalanches and crushes her little self! Still, what can you do…curiosity and all that!!

Oh you are so cute, Shreve – the preambles you have, the anticipation created lol! I love it. We have a cute black long-haired feral cat at our shelter who snuck out about 2 months ago, and lo and behold, I thought the cats were all fixed, but I can swear that Blackie is going to have babies soon – she is very large on the sides and increasingly so, and is now trying to start to sneak out – the nest seeking …

Oh, he (she) is a little M head. As in the stripes on the forehead make the letter M. Story goes like this: (I’m not religious, heard this years ago) When Jesus was born in the manger he cried and cried and would not be comforted. A cat, also in the manger, jumped in next to Jesus and began to purr, the crying stopped. Like all grateful Mother’s Mary was thankful, and to bless the cat, drew on it’s forehead the letter M. Ok that’s it. Ta Da!

I agree with LisaB – you cannot possibly post enough pictures of the cats. Especially the kittens! Hey, how about a cat calendar?
