Steamed Milkbath
☆ June 21, 2011
It’s no secret I love my milk baths ~ a gallon or two of surplus Daisy milk dumped into steaming water in my outdoor cast iron tub with a few drops of lavender oil and aahhhhhhhhh under the stars.
But the other evening was windy (not to be confused with breezy, which is quite lovely during an outdoor soak), too windy for a comfortable bath outside, so I grabbed a gallon o’ milk and trekked to Mike’s house.
I was having a nice mellow soak, but then thought, why not put the jets on for a moment? An innocent whim that turned into a PARTAY, party in the bathtub.
The milk began to froth and grow and soon I was swirling in several inches of FOAM!
When I turned the jets off, the noise was deafening: the sound of a million tiny milk bubbles popping. Within minutes, the water was back to its glassy state.
And with another press of the jets, it frothed back up into foam!
Like bathing in a giant cappuccino. I’m easily amused.

Mike has a huge tub. Looks like could be fun for two – LOL
Shreve – I received the picture I ordered yesterday of Daisy and her baby. It is on my fridge – so cute.

Am extremely jealous of this. Your lucky skin!

WOW!!! I’m jealous. It would only be better if Mike would all a sky lite over the tub Then you could have a cappuccino soak under the stars!

Oh Shreve too funny. Someone just shared this link with me yesterday. Yet another benefit of milk baths. 8-)

I wonder if I could get my cats to take a milk bath?

I’ve never had a milk bath, but it’s beginning to sound tempting. Although I won’t be lucky enough to experience the cappuccino spa experience :P

I agree with Mariana! I will have to put this on my something to try list.

A really lovely experience, I’m sure, but now you have milk in the tubes in the jet system, which will happily turn stale if left to sit. Make sure you run a few cycles with clean water and baking soda. Sorry to be so practical. :-)

Your sense of amusement is amusing :)

I say milk it for all it’s worth (aack… what IS it with me and bad puns lately?!) and flush those jets clean with fresh milk as often as possible. Foam on!
p.s. – your tweet and link to the 5-ft. chicken were simply hilarious and exactly what I needed, as I’m having
one
of
those
days…

Oh how lovely – I love milk baths too! Never tried a jetted tub with one though (don’t really have access to one). Looks cool though…

I love that chicken on the twit, chicken are very dignified, it’s a very classy chicken. Their feet make it so. Off topic, I just found my Charlie calendar, I had of course filed it in between books so it would not get destroyed during the big move, then of course which books among the 75 cases of books was it filed into ? I now have it and I am happy and I want a milk bath.

Looks lovely! Loved the tweet about the 5 foot chicken-it made my day!

This is totally off topic, but I had to say it — I went to my local bookstore yesterday and there, sitting on the counter at the register was your book, The Daily Coyote! Made my day!
June 21st, 2011 @ 3:43 pm
LOL!! Are those your knees??! Are they really beet red??! What fun!
June 21st, 2011 @ 4:13 pm
This totally tickled my funny bone… thanks!

LOL!!!! REALLY! Giggling out loud. I always save your posts for the very end of my workdays as I just know that there will be something in there to make me smile. Mostly.
You go have more fun in that tub more often! and Yes, it is good to be easily amused. Then you will be happier .

Reminds me of the old Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass album cover of the woman covered in whipped cream. I like your idea better.

I too thought ahhhh, milk in the jets? Hmmm. I’d be doing a flushing with some powerful cleaners if I were you. Asap.
June 22nd, 2011 @ 2:11 pm
A & J ~ Not to worry ~ I did that right after the bath!
But I might “forget to” should Mike ever REALLY piss me off…. ;)

Hey Shreve, having a milk bath totally intrigues me. Does it have any benefits for your skin or is it simply a luxury (a fantastically whimsical one). I have eczema and the thought of anything soothing on my skin sounds like a dream.
June 22nd, 2011 @ 4:45 pm
I’d like to try, I’d feel just like bathing in a cloud…
June 23rd, 2011 @ 4:22 pm
I have been a lurker on The Daily Coyote and Honey Rock Dawn for years now, and never commented, but I couldn’t NOT comment on this! I love it! I’m out in Seattle, and work for Starbucks corporate, so obviously, love Love LOVE the idea of a cappuccino bath :) Thank you for letting us all live vicariously through the beauty of your words and pictures. I covet your life :)
June 25th, 2011 @ 10:14 am
oooh your lucky skin! I bet you were all aglow after that lovely experience!
June 27th, 2011 @ 4:18 am
@I Hermit #23 – I remember that cover, even though I was just a kid! Loved that album!
June 27th, 2011 @ 4:45 pm
LOL. Suggest that you foam up a milk bath in Mikes tub just before he gets home and let him share in your discovery. :)
June 28th, 2011 @ 11:25 pm
Shreve, you are truly inspiring. And hilarious! :)
July 3rd, 2011 @ 4:31 pm
i absolutely must take a frothy milk bath, and soon!
July 14th, 2011 @ 8:36 pm
And here I thought milk baths were just legend. Doesn’t your skin feel sticky after?
January 26th, 2012 @ 12:54 pm
I wonder how much milk I would have to add to my 430 gal. hot tub to achieve the same effect with the jets turned on?
On second thought….
:)
