New Identity
☆ November 16, 2011
I found a new stamp for my header.
It came in the mail yesterday by synchronicity.
So, I don’t have sheep and I don’t eat wheat,
but the cow is a cross between
Daisy and Frisco!
I’ll send a necklace to the first person to guess
what country it’s from.
(you might need to clear your cache to see the change)
It’s NEW ZEALAND! Thistles and all. Dated 1956.
Sarah L, email me your mailing addy!
Thanks for playin’, all of you

Hi Shreve. I would say Scotland too. Of course the thistles could be an alibi.
I live in New Zealand & the photo just does not look NZ at all. Yes we have more sheep than people here though.Actually the photo looks more American to me. Having said that, I don’t know whether USA had pennies in the old days.
Can’t wait for the big reveal.
Cheers, Sue

Scotland is my guess.
1) Scottish thistles in the corners
2) It’s in English
3) It says “3d.” – It’s a three penny stamp. before Decimalization, “d” was used as the notation for pennies in the United Kingdom (It stands for Denarius, a Roman copper coin!).

Yes, the thistles were a clear Scotland give-away. Although I wasn’t sure about the “D” as a denomination, others have explained it, so I would cast another vote for Scotland! Also Scotland definitely has sheep and wheat. :)
I’m from Russia and this is definitely not Russian, especially because the “3D” is not in Cyrillic. The imagery probably makes people think of the Soviet focus on collective farm life. Although Russia certainly has lots of land and lots and lots of wheat!

Question: is this a copy of an original stamp, an aniversary one or a current one? Did you ‘shop’ the date in? Could make a big difference to the answer.
How about somewhere in the British Commonwealth?
I will take a wild guess and say Canada. Way back when, I think Canada used English money for a few years and certainly has wheat, cattle and sheep.
I was looking carefully at the stamp to see if there was a not so obvious clue. No luck. But I did notice that some of the clouds look like sheep heads. Perhaps it is just my overactive imagination, but that is what I see.

Gambia? Only currency I could find that has a D
November 16th, 2011 @ 6:59 pm
I would say Scotland – looking at the thistles in the corners. But since I didn’t think Scotland had its own postal system back when they were using pennies – maybe its actually from a colony. I agree with a previous comment that it doesn’t look like NZ. I wonder if maybe it’s Zimbabwe or some African colony?

I don’t have any new guesses, but it is pretty, for sure!
November 16th, 2011 @ 8:30 pm
It’s already been said, but I guess Britain. My reasoning: it is made to look old-timey and a penny was abbreviated as D (as in the cost in the upper right) until 1971 in Britain.
Cheers!

November 17th, 2011 @ 1:01 am
Has to be in an English speaking country. Other countries wouldn’t put so many English words on a stamp :)
The currency “D” is strange, though… I have no idea to which country it could correspond.

hmm, my computer just gave me updated new stamp … I was sure the old one was Yugoslavia but as I looked at it, I was foxed about the thistles people mentioned…
Well,
I believe this is a rare scottish island stamp, not the mainland… but which one, heaven knows, Pabay?
Anyone who wants to spend hours researching, there’s the probable answer I believe.
Pity, I like the arrowhead but I think it just floated away…
November 17th, 2011 @ 8:56 am
Ha! My browser was still showing the old one. Congrats Sarah!!

November 17th, 2011 @ 10:18 am
It’s the Southland Centennial stamp.

November 17th, 2011 @ 11:47 am
That’s an easy one! Judging by the thistles in the corners it must be Scotland.
November 17th, 2011 @ 4:36 pm
For some strange reason the sheep standing in front of the cow reminds me of Frisco. Odd, I know, but it does.
November 23rd, 2011 @ 12:32 pm
I like that new stamp.
You may not have sheep, but you might someday. And learn to shear, card, spin and weave.
You may not have wheat now, but you might someday. It doesn’t take to much to grow enough for yourself to have ground to flour.
I think that is the perfect stamp for you.
