Are you kidding? Charlie sticks out like a sore thumb anywhere! We are lucky and have not had any snow here in the East yet. Love Daisy, what a beautiful cow as are all your animals.
December 4th, 2011 @ 11:35 am
It was like that in Alberta just a few days ago. We were sitting outside in fall coats and wham snow!
December 4th, 2011 @ 11:57 am
Carol… that’s Chloe…. :)
December 4th, 2011 @ 12:14 pm
While out in pasture to catch the boys to go riding I spotted their friends on the other side of the fence so went to visit the cows. Some skittered away but a few brave souls right to the fence to have a hello with me. Love it!!!
December 4th, 2011 @ 12:34 pm
What a perfectly lovely summer picture.
Daisy looks so content. I wonder if she realizes what a wonderful life she has?
December 4th, 2011 @ 12:43 pm
Here too.
Someone flipped the weather switch.
December 4th, 2011 @ 12:53 pm
stunning, simply stunning – thank you for always sharing –
ps – charlie, way up right hand corner?
December 4th, 2011 @ 2:15 pm
Is that Charlie about 15 feet behind Chloe, standing in the shadows?
The winter scene makes me cold just looking at it, but it’s beautiful just the same.
December 4th, 2011 @ 2:18 pm
Is Charlie BEHIND Chloe? roughhousing? She seems kind of curled around in that “I’ma gonna getcha leg!” position…
December 4th, 2011 @ 2:18 pm
It seems like summer never arrived in Seattle, and we’re experiencing a late fall now with a surprising lack of rain. I’m hoping I don’t jinx it by typing about it. In case I do, I’ll return to your summer photo to remind me what could be.
December 4th, 2011 @ 5:18 pm
Glad I’m home alone at the moment…holding my magnifying glass up to the computer monitor looking for Charlie. :) Is that his head sticking up behind Chloe?
December 4th, 2011 @ 6:37 pm
The idea of snow is just so weird to me. I live in Los Angeles and I’ve only seen snow once, when I went to Big Bear as a kid. lol
December 4th, 2011 @ 6:58 pm
That vast beautiful wilderness with Charlie in all his glory! Breathtaking!
December 4th, 2011 @ 7:10 pm
SEE! White Daisy AGAIN! so clean
December 4th, 2011 @ 7:51 pm
Slightly to the right of the center of the field, and I think we’re looking at him head-on?
December 4th, 2011 @ 11:43 pm
Charlie is behind Chloe is he not?
December 5th, 2011 @ 1:29 am
I hear ya. My goldfish are wondering where the four inches of ice came from on their pond.
December 5th, 2011 @ 7:32 am
I’m gonna need help here. I THINK I see him but would not bet on anything. Clues? Can you give us some clues?
December 5th, 2011 @ 8:09 am
Charlie is a skosh behind Chloe (12′?) looking riiiiight at us and sitting at attention, no?
December 5th, 2011 @ 10:07 am
*sings* I spot the Chloe, but I could not see the coyote…
(although you have to sing it kai-oh-tay for it to work). Hahaha.
December 5th, 2011 @ 12:38 pm
Wow, I read all the guesses and still couldn’t spot him to save my life. I even tried looking with only my good eye. LOL
No luck. He is hidden, but good. My best guess is that there are a couple of ears sticking up somewhere, cause when I’ve seen pictures here where he’s hiding, you normally only see eyes and ears.
But still, no hope of seeing him.
December 5th, 2011 @ 1:59 pm
You must only see Daisy’s topknot and knees in the winter. Does she know how luxurious she looks?
December 5th, 2011 @ 3:20 pm
I think I see Charlie, but I could be way wrong. I definitely need new glasses.
As for the weather, it’s been just as weird here.
We had a snow storm before Halloween and today it’s 60 degrees here.
December 5th, 2011 @ 3:31 pm
I think Susan and Silk might be on to something, but my guess he is more in the foreground, on the left (about an inch from the bottom/an inch from the left). He is lying down, with his head down (facing the camera). great game. good break in the day.
December 5th, 2011 @ 3:38 pm
Okay – I am NOT dreaming or longing for our SUMMER to ever return – I’m down here in Texas where we were baked, fried and fricasseed this summer.
That being said – RAIN, WIND, SLEET plus the temp hovering at 32 degrees is just cruel for December 5th here.
Please post a new pic soon with a little arrow pointing at Charlie. I think I spot him behind Miss Chloe.
December 5th, 2011 @ 7:39 pm
Charlie has learned how NOT to be seen… I’m guessing just above and a little behind Chloe, but I don’t give long odds. The colors (and textures)of that shot are just too close to his to give me confidence.
For that matter, Chloe (I’m assuming that’s her) in image 2 doesn’t exactly stand out. She must just about vanish in a moderate-heavy snowfall from more than a few yards away.
And what a magnificent, archetype shot of Daisy: green earth, blue sky, massively serene white cow. Have you considered doing a photo series of the Farmily with the Tarot as a theme? Daisy would make an amazing Empress.
December 5th, 2011 @ 8:35 pm
is that charlie’s nose sticking out of chloe’s butt?just under her tail, with his tail near her head?? or is that her leg?it’s a trick question isn’t it?i bet he took the picture!
December 5th, 2011 @ 9:35 pm
Yep, you can send my five bucks to… lol
December 5th, 2011 @ 9:54 pm
Farmily Tarot – I LOVE that idea!!
December 6th, 2011 @ 10:28 am
I saw him before I read to find him :-)
I was wondering if you had snow yet, it’s been so cold here lately.
December 6th, 2011 @ 10:36 am
Not sure if someone has guessed this yet –
Charlie is just above Chloe – from her curly tail about a mouse arrowhead length (just the arrowhead, not full pointer) above her tail – he is looking straight at the camera – he looks like a bush but with ears :)
Is that him?
December 6th, 2011 @ 11:09 am
if you go to the right (on the pic) of chloe’s tail about 10-15 feet you will see an outcropping of sage that is pointed up in the sun more than plants around it. now if you look down under that finger of sage you will see several other bush ‘thumbs’ showing and just below the one to your left….. a set of ears and the back of some animal that is presumably charlie.
could be wrong of course but one of the ways to spot game or wildlife is to look for shapes that are oriented horizontally since surrounding plant material grows vertically.
December 6th, 2011 @ 11:43 am
I’m scared Shreve. I’m scared that if I put my nose to the moniter, and look, look, look for sweet Charlie, that it’ll be one of those scary “where’s waldo” things that frighten me to death, and suddenly there will be a loud snort, and a big, pink, wet, Daisy tongue slurping across my moniter and I will pee my pants at work. It is, isn’t it?
Who wins the prize for most commas and longest run on?
December 6th, 2011 @ 12:42 pm
The Charlie Rorschach test – If I super focus I see Charlie just to the right of Chloe, the nose and ears lying in the grass facing the camera. There seems to be a little white around the nose and the ears are up. But then I start seeing other Charlies! god help me…
December 6th, 2011 @ 12:54 pm
I have never seen such a photogentic cow !!! I just love her and all your farmily
December 6th, 2011 @ 1:34 pm
Very nice pictures. We had winter hit here over the weekend, with three snowfalls and sub-zero temps last night and this a.m. It’s beginning to look a lot like a White Christmas, lol.
I think Charlie is slightly off-center, almost in line with Chloe, but with a good deal of space between them. He is in the shadows between two sage bushes, and to me it looks as if his head is turned in Chole’s direction, giving us a profile. But what do I know…
December 6th, 2011 @ 2:55 pm
Are we going to find out where he is?
December 6th, 2011 @ 3:02 pm
Is Charlie lying down on the ground behind Chloe?
December 6th, 2011 @ 3:36 pm
Took three tries at finding him.
My first impression was that Chloe was running. If she was running after Charlie in a drag out race, Charlie would have been long gone out of the picture.
2nd look: there appears to be a shadow and one too many legs where Chloe is standing.
Third look: slightly off centre and slightly behind Chloe. Charlie is sitting with his body towards the camera and his head slightly turned towards Chloe.
I suspect that all three guesses are way off but it was fun.
December 7th, 2011 @ 4:58 am
Oh, these just cheered up my awful day. Thank you! Daisy looks glorious, I love the way the breeze plays with her blonde bangs, she is so beautiful. Love all the pics :o)
December 7th, 2011 @ 10:46 am
And the correct guess is????????????
Where is he!!
December 8th, 2011 @ 9:14 am
Is he a bit to the right of Chloe? Kind of on the other side of the wild grass bush?
December 8th, 2011 @ 1:26 pm
This is killing me, four days and counting – Oh where, Oh where is sweet Charlie?
December 9th, 2011 @ 8:10 am
About 9 feet away from Chloe’s tail, across a little bushless gap, there appears to be an upright furry person staring at the camera.
But what the hell do I know? I thought the darn stamp was, for sure, from about as far away as it was possible for it to be ….:-)))
December 9th, 2011 @ 7:55 pm
Shreve, are you ever going to enlighten us as to Charlie’s location? I must know! Clearly, I need to get a life.
:)
December 10th, 2011 @ 7:06 pm
S ~ ummmm no. this is too much fun. and isn’t it just a metaphor for life? :)
December 12th, 2011 @ 11:53 am
But, but, but…we’re asking nicely.
December 13th, 2011 @ 10:57 am
I think he’s almost dead center in the photo, on the same plane as Chloe, blending in with the shadow of the bush he’s in front of. It seems he’s looking at her, but I can’t be sure.
December 14th, 2011 @ 5:33 am
Charlie is directly to the left of Chloe in the picture. They are actually together. Am I right???
December 14th, 2011 @ 5:53 pm
Bah! You’re not telling us where he is just so you won’t have to send out $5 to everyone who found hum. Hey, we got it in writing!
December 14th, 2011 @ 5:55 pm
(A photo of $5 on the website with the names of everyone who spotted him will do, actually. That, or another photo of the Man’s backside….)
December 14th, 2011 @ 10:59 pm
I think Charlie took the picture.
December 15th, 2011 @ 3:50 pm
Perhaps Shreve has us seeking our inner Coyote, our inner Charlie?
Not sure who said this but we are nature viewing nature. Seeking Charlie, seeking self. Charlie is a different projection for everyone. For myself, Charlie is that part of self that is wild and free yet domestic and connected to its family, and through Shreve’s wonderful photography of her farmily we get to react either in writing or not.
Some fear the wildness and see danger and project out negative thoughts. I’m grateful and delight in the relationship between a beautiful wild creature whose circumstance brought him to be cared for by Shreve; a wise feline master, what more can we say about Eli; a female puppy gown into a canine teaching the wild one how to play; and a woman through her craft showing us how if we trust, honor our inner voice, respect inner truth and have the patience to simply observe, understand and respect anothers nature, we can all get along.
Since I won’t have access to the internet for the next few weeks, except when I go to town, I admit I’ll miss Daily Coyote and observing Charlie through pictures.
With this said, I’ll pay Shreve $5 to show us where Charlie is hiding! Or perhaps everyone seeking Charlie can all send her a dime and we have $5. Charlie can’t be far from Chloe, as they always seem close and he probably is underneath Chloe or so hidden in the grasses we are really seeking our inner coyote.
Charlie wins, perfect hiding place — in my heart!
