Cracked Out On Eggs

☆ March 14, 2012

About a week ago, as I fought to emerge from a Mini Egg stupor, I twittered: “MiniEggs are going to be the death of me. And WHY do they now show up in stores in February? The season of my addiction has become too long.”  The responses proved I am far from alone in this affliction, and included this video:

link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8LNPXtwXxU

Mike, however, clearly does not have the mind of an addict. He hid a bag of Mini Eggs from me (upon my plea) but a few days later I needed a fix and went up to his house while he was at work.  I looked everywhere for the Mini Eggs, including in the pockets of rarely-worn jackets hanging in the guest bedroom closet.

I couldn’t find them anywhere.  Finally I said eff it and opened his pantry to see if he had any decent food.  AND THERE WERE THE MINI EGGS.  Who hides food in the pantry???  It almost worked, because in my demented brain that’s the last place I thought they’d be.

Ha! I love those little devils too. I’m addicted to Cadbury creme (and caramel – yum!) eggs. Every year, I wait for the commercial where the lion boks like a chicken and I giggle like a fool. Every. Year.

The best place to hide something is the most obvious place!! Lol

This reminds me of the time my husband hid a 2 lb. bag of peanut butter m&ms from me. I found them hidden in the trash can by his desk. After eating almost all of them, I confessed to him that I had found his hiding place, but (can you see where I’m going with this?) he had not hidden them…he had thrown them away. I had not cleverly defeated him…I was eating garbage.

Not one of my proudest moments.

I have the same problem. And, I know that they show up in stores on February 15. They take down the Valentine’s candy and put these out. I swore I wouldn’t have any this year … I failed.

Oh!!!! this soooo cracked me up!!!! I try so very hard to avoid them every year!!! I make every attempt not to go down the special holiday candy isle in the market where they are so nicely displayed….so I don’t have to see them and be tempted….but just today I couldn’t help myself, they were calling to me and noone else could hear them!!!! I gave in and to my pleasant surprise they now have them in royal dark (solid dark chocolate with a crisp sugar shell)…of course they are better for you than the milk chocolate right, right!!!???? ;) yep I bought a bag and can’t wait to have just afew when I get home…just afew….I promise……..NOT :P

i love jelly beans. i wait all year for them and i tell myself they are fat free so they must be okay to eat..lol! my friend had a reese cup addiction but only to the shaped ones that come out for the holidays. i swear the candy industry adds drugs to these things to make us crave them.

For me, it’s the chocolate marshmellow filled bunnies at Easter, and the Santas at Christmas….one grocery store I was in the other day where I accidentally walked up the Easter aisle, had NONE – how dare they??

If you lived here and could get Trader Joe’s chocolate oranges (at Christmas time only…………..)

My absolute favorite treat? Marshmallow balls with a wild blueberry core dipped in pure dark chocolate and crushed nuts. Its a treat my Mom use to make. Now we are talking REAL marshmallow from the Marsh Mallow plant, not the chemical concoction available nowadays. Since real marshmallow is now difficult to get I don’t have to worry about over doing it, with that treat at least.

Never had mini-eggs, but I’m the same way about jelly beans. In fact, I’ve gone to the kitchen twice tonight so far to get a small handful.

Me too. Thankfully I’m currently in Mexico and cannot eat them. Sadly … they are now starting to bring out a Christmas version. CHRISTMAS. Why must they do this to me??

OH MY GALLOPING HORSE. This is me exactly! YUMZ. Although, I would like to state that I have *you* to thank for this year’s MiniEgg craze starting early in this house. I never browse in holiday areas in stores and don’t read the ads, so I never would have known they were out so early but for your tweet! Haha! I bought four bags the other day. One was 3/4 eaten in a day, and the others are stashed away for “after season.” XP

I bought six of the little packets today. If I buy the big bag, I’ll just eat the whole thing in one or two sittings. At least I got some organic apples and kale at the farmers market, too.

I don’t think I’ve every had them, and judging by the post and comments, I’m going to stay clear. I have to many chocolate related addictions already.

My son & I were cracking up at the video! He acts the same way over chocolate. I, on the other hand, act that way over green olives stuffed with pimento soaked in brine. YUM! And then you pour some of the brine into a martini and voila… you have a yummy dirty martini. Mwahahahahaha.

So glad I’m not the only one addicted to those! I think I’m the reason they put easter eggs in the shops on new year’s day.

  24. Scotty
    March 15th, 2012 @ 5:58 am

you wouldn’t dare buy two bags because then the clerk would know you are an addict. so you go back later and get another bag after there’s been a shift change. and you have a problem when buying them you look around and sooo want to hide them because someone you know might discover your obsession. ohhh that feeling of relief when you finally get them hidden in the store bag. so uhhhh no, i don’t know a thing about this kind of problem. cough cough.

mikey should have put a little sign on yours that said ‘you are so busted’.

You are too funny! Perhaps I should mail you a couple of bags of them?????

    March 15th, 2012 @ 9:47 am

That is a funny story, Shreve! You have a far more devious mind than Mike does, I think.

My obsession is not with mini-eggs or the Cadburys (which our local market put out at CHRISTMAS time– ew!), but with the Reeses’s peanut butter filled chocolate egg (okay, it’s just a really big, egg-shaped Reeses’s peanut-butter cup, but I love those too). My roomie bought a king-sized one the other day and shared it with me– now that’s all I can think of, lol.

Shreve – definitely know what you are talking about. I have too many Easter candy addictions! I started, like you, in February and still tring to stop myself from over indulging! Keep the shiney side up! It’ll be over soon…..

I’ve been desperately trying to resist the dark choco good ness of the minis. But the work stress overwhelmed me today and I left (well plus it got up to 80 degrees…) to walk my dog at lunch, and before I knew what was happening on the way back I was at Walgreens hunting for eggs. Coupon in hand, I narrowly escaped with 4 bags of dark minis for $8. black out? bargain? crikey who cares….we need them and Cadbury knows it….arrrgghh nom nom nom

Go buy another bag and return them to the pantry before he returns! You win and so does Mike! No wait, that’s what I did as a kid.

  34. Deborah
    March 15th, 2012 @ 2:30 pm

Too funny!!! I bought a bag to open on Easter (also my birthday this year) … And it’s taking a ton of discipline to stay away. I am a recovering Catholic, but some habits are hard to break – like Lent, so I gave up chocolate ( one of my greatest joys in life!) I treat this as a personal challenge as well as a spiritual discipline, but it is HARD!!! I WILL be that guy in the video come Easter!

My husband has a mini egg addiction that was made worse this year by the discovery of a Christmas version of the mini egg. Yep…same coating, same chocolate, but in red, green and white, and round, not egg shaped. Look out for them next year!

    Hiarious Shreve!!
I too, felt that I was the only one addicted to these delish little perfectly sized, extraordinarily candy-shelled pieces of pastel heaven. There’s a CVS Pharmacy next to our Whole Foods that I go into after our shop to get my “fix”. I pretend that I need other items but my husband is onto me. The last time we went on a shop, as we stood in line to check out, I did my usual “pick me up in front of CVS when your done” routine. His reply – “Mini Egg run?”

I am not alone! suddenly i find there’s a whole universe of mini-egg lovers! they used to have them year round and I was so sad when they disappeared. Now I gorge on them every easter….
And someone says there are DARK minis??? save me

  43. Emily

Christmas mini eggs are my saving grace come November/December. By then my stash in the freezer has been devoured and I can’t wait till February to replenish. Yes, I save mini eggs to get me through the long year.

What is wrong with you people!!!!!!
It’s Russell Stover maple creme eggs for me! I could buy a whole flat, but settle for 2 whenever I’m in a store with them.

Oh and at least one bag of black jelly beans a year.

LOL!!! I’m writing this as I’m eating probably my 15th bag of Mini Eggs in a month… what is it about these things!?! I don’t care anymore… I’m going to binge and just deal with it because they’re SOOOO good! :D

I usually buy what’s left on clearance and store them for the summer… it’s hard not to eat them until then. :/

Hi Anette! :-)Just had a look at some of your pictures from last days :-)Coincidentally a colpue of weeks ago I got a cold when I returned from London. For me personally it always starts with a sore throat then the following night the sore throat goes and sneezing and blocked up nose take over as well as feeling ill. Luckily though I had 4 days remaining of my annual leave so when I returned to work I was over the worst of it.I never buy souvineirs whenever I go to London. Instead I always seem to return with some germs or virus of some sort :-)I’ve read some of the previous comments about you been in hospital. Hope you’re ok :-)Have a nice evening Anette! :-)
