HOLY COW!

☆ July 6, 2012

We did it!!!  The first year of Star Brand Beef is sold out!  Wow and yeehaw and thank you!  This is really profound and exciting.  I have a few unpaid invoices (everyone has until Monday) so if you were hoping to get in on it, email me and I’ll put you on a wait list in case any of the remaining orders fall through.

Other tidbits ~ Sir Baby is improving daily.  His wound is still in the healing process and, with this kind of injury, it’s a long process.  But I see daily improvement and he’s in great spirits.  Thanks so much for your well wishes!

There was a fire here, though nothing remotely close to what’s going on in Colorado, and I do have pics and a post written but haven’t had a moment to
type it up (I hand write everything).  Coming soon…..

AND: I’ll be doing some behind the scenes work on the Daily Coyote blog so it will be down for a period of time over the weekend ~ not to worry!  My computer genius web man is fixing up some back end stuff and we’ll have it up again asap.

So happy Baby is getting better. Have been away so just read your article about charcoal. Very interesting & useful to know. Enjoy your posts Shreve.

Poor Sir Baby so glad he is better. Fires here in MO too. Even lawn mowers hitting stones and causing a spark have been to blame for some of the fires. I was in CO last month and had 3 friends who had to evacuate their home, all were saved!!

I just finished your book. Really liked it. Nice to read about a strong woman.

“…he’s in great spirits.” I’ll bet he is. As soon as you stop treating him, he’s going to find more barbed wire on purpose.

Here in Boulder we got smoke from your fire. IN fact, we got so much smoke from Wyoming that we all thought something else was on fire near us.
I looked at a map but couldn’t tell how close it was to you. Glad to hear that you and yours are OK.

So Sir Baby is in great spirits. Of course he is with the special care he is getting – “boys are easy.” :-)
Hope there isn’t any damage caused by the fires. The whole country is affected by the dry weather. In AZ we have 6 fires. Had rain a couple of days ago but not where we need it. In fact the rain came down so hard it flooded many homes in a southern town. Mother nature controls us.

Congratulations on your new venture success! Hope the fires are not too close. We have some much rain here in Seattle, I really wish we could share a bit with the dry areas.

Loved your handwritten and photographed blog posts, if you are inclined to do that again. Adds a soulful dimension, like the whipped cream (from your cows) on top of your wonderful writing.

Meant to post earlier – CONGRATS on selling all you beef. Great accomplishment and great way to start a business.

Congratulations on the successful launch of Star Beef! Couldn’t join in this year, but hopefully next time. But I must rave about my bamboo Star Brand Beef tee-shirt — it is beyond soft and such a comfy fit. I’m saving it to wear on a cruise next month, and I can’t wait to spread The Gospel of grass-fed beef to the curious (how can one resist asking about a shirt like that?).

Congratulations on a successful sale! I am so excited about next year when your beef is available to us East Coasters! :-)

This is also a good time to thank you so much for what you’re doing and for educating us in the process. I already knew about the difference between grain-fed and grass-fed beef (the different fat content of the meat, etc.) What I didn’t know before you posted about it is that grass-fed beef is often finished with grain before slaughter. What the heck?!?! That completely undoes all the benefits of grass-feeding!

Soooo …. I was at our local farmers’ market last week, and there is a local “grass-fed beef” vendor there. I was hoping he would be an affordable source of beef, but because of what I read here, I knew to ask him whether his beef was grass-finished, and he told me it was not. He said that for the last month or so the cattle is grain fed to increase the fat marbling in the meat to improve the flavor. Thanks to the extra info I learned from your site, I was able to politely thank him for that info and his (ridiculously expensive) price list and move on without wasting my money.

So thank you again for educating your readers and helping us decode the buzzwords used by food suppliers. This beef thing reminds me of the cage-free/free-range/pastured egg terminology. All 3 sound similar to the consumer but really mean very different conditions for the chickens.

thrilled that star beef is off to a fantastic successful start. yes, part of it is because i am an east coast girl excited that you will go at it again next year, but a bigger part is because you are a wonderful woman who deserves great things. congratulations!

my heart is happy to hear that sir baby is progressing positively. thanks for sharing the news.

now that i know you and the farmily are well, i’m looking forward to reading about the fire.

peace, love, luck, and lollipops to you.

Great to hear about Sir Baby! I was wondering about those fires – so glad you and all are ok!

Re mother nature controlling us – so true and so many still in denial. I work with someone in a very technical agency who does not believe there are any changes going on…

One more vote for the East Coast (I’m in the Shenandoah Valley), but sit down with your abacus first, since it might be a case of more demand than you can handle!

Non sequitur: I just got my first dog (shelter shepherd mix, only took almost 30 years, and of course he is delightful and practically perfect in every way), and since he’s adult but young and not very trained, I’ve been reading lots of dog-training stuff online. What I’ve found, though, is that Temple Grandin’s popular animal behaviorism books, Animals in Translation and Animals Make Us Human, have been most useful for reliable theories on how dogs process the world, and that your book about Charlie has been most helpful for figuring out as we go along, and trusting and listening along the way. So thank you, and I bet shepherd-mix Kip thanks you, too.

If you get a chance and are willing, it would be awesome of you could get a picture or two of the herd in their natural conditions before slaughter (if it hasn’t happened yet?) Some of my friends are super excited about responsible ranching!

Yay for Sir Baby! :) I had no doubt in my mind that his momma Shreve couldn’t heal him back to full bull status! :)

    Regarding the beef…
I’m an East-Coaster [in NY!] and I’d LOVE to get in on some sort of list. I have contacts in NJ, DE, MD, CT..etc. If anyone would like to talk about future orders, I’d be happy to chat and figure out something so we can be ready when Shreve is set for easterners to enjoy her beef!
    ~Jenn

PS – Also, I’m willing to set up a log/spreadsheet type in order to set-up/log/monitor/confirm the East Coast share orders, so we know exactly where we stand, if that would help anyone.

Thanks so much for giving everyone an exceptionally terrific possiblity to read in detail from this website. It really is so pleasing and full of amusement for me and my office mates to search your website particularly 3 times in a week to read through the fresh items you have got. Of course, I am just certainly impressed considering the effective techniques you serve. Some 2 points on this page are unequivocally the most beneficial I’ve had.
