Three Wishes

☆ October 25, 2012

A few more from the Q&A…. and there are a lot more left ~ I shall hack away slowly but surely….

If there was one other animal you could add to the Farmily with no restrictions on laws, society views, etc, (domesticated or not), what would you choose and why?

A panda bear. I think I would spontaneously combust if I ever got the chance to be face to face with a panda. I wanted to be a panda scientist when I was little. My realistic hopeful addition to the Farmily is bees.

If the Shoe Fairy flew into your window and granted you three free pairs of shoes, any shoes (or boots, or mules, etc) in the whole universe… Tell me dearie, what would those three be? Signed,
 Faithful Fellow Farming Reader
(Who loves to dream of shoes she will never get to wear)

I love to dream that way, too!
These (and seen in action here). My ONLY consolation in not owning them is that I’d never be able to wear them outside. What the red mud would do to these beauties….. it’s too terrible to think about.
These are pretty much the holy grail of boots; unfortunately they’re $1000.
These remind me of Frisco. They’re absurd and wonderful.

If you could have someone take care of the Farmily for you for 3 weeks, where in the world would you like to visit?

After watching part of “The Blue Planet,” I want to go to the bottom of the ocean. Actually, a multi-level ocean tour, from surface to seafloor ~ snorkel, scuba, submersion pod. That’s what I would like to do.

Ahhh! Come to San Diego, we’ll go to the zoo and see the Pandas! They are SO cute, all fat and happy, munching away on their bamboo :D We recently had a baby born at the zoo too!

I think bees are a wonderful idea and totally do-able for you. Once you get going with them, they pretty much care for themselves, you just have to keep an eye on them, help split the hives in the spring and take care of the honey (raw honey, yum!!!) And we need bees!

(I’m not saying you don’t have to work, but I understand the hard work with bees, once their established, comes in phases through the year.)

Bees…for a brief moment of temporary insanity I told my husband I wanted bees cause I found some really awesome recipes to make beeswax soap….he gently reminded me that I was alergic to their sting….
Pandas are so awesome! Everytime I see one I just wish I could cuddle up to it. They look so fat and fluffy!

I have 2 beekeeping friends. One in Oklahoma City (http://thelazyw.blogspot.com) and one in Brevard, NC (http://vesuviusathome.com). She moved her bees from Longmont, CO earlier this summer. The bees. In the car!

I thought of you when I walked past a Fluevog store in Vancouver last month. :-)

I got my first hive this year! They’re awesome, and so gentle. My husband’s uncle has been a bee friend for 50+ years, and breeds his bees to be gentle and winter hardy, I have a wonderful resource and wealth of knowledge in him. I love to sit out by the hive and watch them, they’re such remarkable creatures!

LOVE the Frisco-inspired shoes! It’d be a shame to get mud on them, though.

If you go the bee route, keep the racoons and skunks away! They can decimate a hive in no time.

Oooh, a fellow Fluevoger. I love their shoes, have at least 6 pairs and a list of ones I covet (I hang on for the sales.) Pricey as hell, but so well made, so interesting. Plus, their customer service is the bomb.

I had the opportunity to visit the Panda Breeding and Research Center in Chengdu, Sichuan, China as few years ago and it was amazing!

I too am interested in bee keeping. I went to a workshop and was feeling a little shy about the book about bee keeping that I had bought until the host of the workshop singled me out to tell the class that the book I had was probably the best book one could buy. It was Bee Keeping For Dummies. It makes it seem really easy. I think you should give it a shot.

A panda would be adorable! Bees seem like they would fit in perfectly with your lifestyle…You’re a bull whisperer…why not be a bee whisperer too!

    Thanks for answering my question!

There’s a charming folk custom that the bees must be told whenever there is life-changing news in the family. Kipling described this in “The Bee-Boy’s Song”, and Whittier in “Telling the Bees.”

They say the bees don’t like not knowing things, and may fly away after a marriage, birth, or funeral, if not kept up to date on the fate of the family. Or Farmily, in this case, I suppose.
