Away, and Back

☆ August 13, 2013

I went on a trip. Shocking, right? It was business and pleasure and now I have nineteen animals of varying size glommed onto me to make up for two weeks of distance. It’s nice to know they missed me! Returning from an alternate universe is always jarring for me, and my email inbox is terrifyingly out of control, and one of my favorite people in my town died suddenly while I was away. Once I get my feet under me, I’ll post more here.

I’m glad you’re back from delivering the beef.
I worry about the animals when you’re away, even tho I am sure Mike is in charge and quite capable. :-)
You can tell I’m not much of a traveler?

Welcome home! Take your time, kiss the farmily, and reacquaint yourself with home. Trips are fun, but I always look forward to getting home.

Welcome Back Shreve, you were greatly missed. But glad to hear you were enjoying a little bit of R&R, even if it had to be mixed in with business.
Sorry to learn about the loss of your dear friend.
    Unknown:
Death of someone close has always reminded me of the fragility of life. This makes me think of those I may have taken for granted, reminds me to tell those I care about how much I love them, forget petty differences, and reconnect with people who have been important in my life. Death also reminds me to continue living as best I can, trying to do the right thing, admit mistakes, live and love true to myself.

Shreve – I really enjoyed meeting you in Torrance as I collected my beef. It is amazing, as I knew it would be. Trips are fun – but home is best, right?

I too suddenly lost one of my favorite people this weekend. It does rattle one’s assumption about the future, and tends to make us appreciate the “now-ness” of our encounters with others as they occur, whenever they occur. Glad I saw him when I was back home visiting in May. HUGS

“Absence makes the heart grow,”, as my mother once said.

Love the photo; reminds me of my dad and stepmother’s boathouse and dock in North Carolina.

Wow, Shreve. I was aware you had been absent for a long time but had no idea you were away from home, and for two weeks! The animals! Sometimes I need a break from all that critter expectation but I can’t stay away longer than 2-3 days before I miss them…and we are only talking THREE critters. How can one feel so needed and yet put upon? Oh well, wouldn’t have it any other way.

Doesn’t it always happen that stuff goes awry when we leave town? It’s a strange life. I’m sorry you lost a friend. No friend can be replaced.

So glad you got to get away – to ocean? :)
My heart hurts for you over the loss of your friend. A real shock to the system, no doubt about it. Hugs to you as you grieve.
I’m sure “glom” is an understatement w/cats purring, cattle mooing, horses prancing, Chloe and Charlie wagging right up off the floor, and Mike… well, unless he went with you, I’m sure it’s been a wonderful homecoming all ’round.
Take your time and catch your breath. xo

Your photo jogged a memory and reminded me of a photo of China Beach Camp from my first road trip back in 1993.
