La Demoiselle

☆ November 3, 2013

demoiselle1

This chicken.
This chicken has ATTITUDE.  I’ve named her La Demoiselle.
Translation from the French into American Country: “Little Lady.”

demoiselle2

If she is hungry, and the door to the house is open,
she will prance right in and find the dog food.
Such a naughty chicken.

demoiselle3

And when I shoo her out,
she glares at me from under her jaunty comb.

Looks like a Civil War era bonnet with a big bow under her chin. What a beauty!

Oh my, a chicken with attitude! Perhaps she will be a good guard chicken.

Hum, her attitude reminds me of another Fowl Friend we all love and miss…..

I love how her comb leans to the side like that. Gives a swagger to her smile

Another poser, clearly. Something in the Farmily dynamic seems to produce them… ;D

I can send you a recipe for cacciatore you can threaten her with.

Keep her as a house pet. She can eat the bugs that always manage to get inside – crickets, ants, spider, little beetles that my grandmother called “country bugs”.

We call that the stink eye around here :)

My Audrey is like that. She prefers to be in the house over being out in the coop with the flock. Open the run door and she makes a beeline for the front door

How do you keep Charlie and other hungry family members from eating the chickens?

Well, she’s simply awesome. Everyone should have – or be – a naughty chicken.

All these comments are great. I’m with Scotty: afraid she’d kick my a$$.

Do she and Eli have an alpha-understanding?

Thx so much for posting these pics – I’m missing Ricardo right about now…

I read a lot of political sites and get a lot of political feeds on facebook. It gets to be so depressing sometimes…and then I come to Honey Rock Dawn and look at the pictures and read the stories. HRD makes me feel better and see the real quality of life. Thank you Shreve! <3

She’s beautiful. I have backyard chickens, and seriously, they are a hoot. Or maybe a cluck!
I adore the sound of their feet thumping as they run to me across the patio!
