Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on the snow,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….

I sit here in tears pouring from a cracked heart, and realize once again how fragile life is and how quickly it can slip away from us. I am so deeply sorry for your loss and will remember Frisco always as the gentle and loving giant he was. May you find peace in knowing how much Frisco meant to all who know you and knew him.
Sending hugs and blessings to you and all the family,

It is odd to weep for an animal you never met, but I am really doing so. After your post the other day, I was hoping Frisco was making a turn for the better. It breaks my heart to read that you have lost him, and I know that is nothing compared to the grief you must feel. It is so touching that the last photo you showed us is him sleeping with his head in your lap. Peace and love to you both.

I think Frisco knew that he wouldn’t make it and wanted to spend that time in the sun with you the other day. What an heroic effort to show his love for you. My dear unmet friend,
It is so hard to lose loved ones, be they 2 or 4 footed. A loving relationship with an animal almost always ends in heartache, but the life journey with them is so very worthwhile. The love they share us is incomparable. My heart aches for you, Mike and the rest of your farmily. The pictures of you with Frisco have touched so many. Ohhh nooo… my heart skipped two beats when I read this terrible news, and now it breaks for you, sweet girl. I’m so very, very sorry. As I said to Mike when he lost Houdini, I wish I could take the grief, if only for a little while, so you could at least catch your breath. It’s the relentlessness of grief that brings us to our knees. It will get better with time and with the comfort of wonderful memories, but until then, ugh. Breathe when it wants to take you under.

Your beautiful, gentle giant was the luckiest bull in the whole world to love and be loved by you. As Pam (18) said, “Frisco’s spirit will live on with all of us because we all loved him.”

Hugs to you, tears with you, prayers for you.

    Not Forgotten by Alexandra Day

A door called death has closed between us – for the moment.

But could a little thing like that break the bond of love and understanding between us, who have been so close?

    Of course not.

    Having left behind the body which no longer served me, I can be with you always and everywhere;
on long delicious walks, at quiet times, and lively times, alone, among friends new and old.

Let my excitement with life still brighten your days.

As long as there is a place in your heart which is the shape of me, I will be with you.

One day you too will come through the door, and we will be together in glorious ways we have yet to understand.

Shreve, I’m sitting here crying along with all these other “friends” for the loss that you are sharing with us. Frisco was such a magnificent, gentle guy and you can tell by the pictures that you have posted that there was a love and trust between the two of you that cannot be compared to anything else. Thank you so much for sharing his life with us. I can remember when you posted that he was born. There just isn’t enough words to let you know how everyone feels, but I think with all these posts combined you get the message of how many people love you and your farmily.

I am so so very sad to hear this news. Not all that long ago bulls made me nervous due to their huge size, but you always posted so many pictures and stories of the kindness of them. I love the picture of you and Frisco laying in the field in pure bliss. Last year because of your amazing stories of Frisco, I put my nerves aside and actually met a bull named Hank. I don’t think I could have ever done that if I had not seen the friendship, trust and compassion you shared with Frisco. Sending healing vibes to both you, Mike and the entire family.

Beautiful friend so gentle and dear.
He certainly knew he was loved!
Words from the Bambi song that has helped me so often when i’ve lost a special animal friend:

Love is a song that never ends
Life may be swift and fleeting
Hope may die yet love’s beautiful music
Comes each day like the dawn

Love is a song that never ends
    One simple theme repeating
Like the voice of a heavenly choir
    Love’s sweet music flows on

Thank you for sharing that love with all of us!

    Shreve,

Sorry to hear about Frisco’s passing. We were all hoping the cow magnet would provide the cure.

When my beloved Ridgeback dog died suddenly at only three years old, I took two days off work and couldn’t talk about it for days. Family and friends offered condolences and the thing I heard that was most helpful and comforting, surprisingly, was from a neighbor whose dogs often played with mine at a neighborhood school yard. She said, “Ya know, shit happens, that is just the way it is.” Reflecting on that and acknowledging it was soothing to me. That and also all the good memories of times spent with the dog and hoping that there really is a Rainbow Bridge that will reunite us with our pets.

Thanks for sharing Frisco with us. You provided some entertaining and amusing stories. One that makes me smile is when you told us how, in order to get his cooperation and keep him calm while administering medicine, or maybe it was with the poultice, you were stroking his balls.

When I was dealing with the death of my first cat back in 2003, (I had him for a long 16 years) I found this and it helped me. I’ve kept it for there have been 2 others that passed on since. One was expected (18 year old kitty), the other not (2.5 years old kitty – heart attack). I used this to help my husband with his grief over the unexpected one. Tears are inevitable, but they are proof of our love. My dearest condolences Shreve.

How long will the pain last?
    by Ginny Brancato (Fificat)…………………………………..
“How long will the pain last?” a broken hearted mourner asked me.
“All the rest of your Life.” I have to answer truthfully. We never quite forget. No matter how many years pass, we remember. The loss of a loved one is like a major operation. Part of us is removed, and we have a scar for the rest of our lives. As the years go by, we manage.
There are things to do, people to care for, tasks that call for full attention. But the pain is still there, not far below the surface. We see a face that looks familiar, hear a voice that echoes, see a photograph in our album, see a fireplace that once we shared, and it seems as though a knife were in the wound again. But not so painfully. And mixed with joy, too. Because remembering a happy time is not all sorrow, it brings back happiness with it.
How long will the pain last?
All the rest of your life. But the thing to remember is that not only will the pain last, but the blessed memories as well. Tears are proof of life. The more love, the more tears. If this be true, then how could we ever ask that the pain cease altogether. For then the memory of love would go with it.
The pain of grief is the price we pay for love.

Dear Shreve….I’m so sorry Frisco didn’t make it! I, along with everyone else, thought the magnet would do the trick. He was such a gentle bull and while you were blessed to have such a great animal in your life, Frisco was even more blessed by having you. You saved his life when you saved Daisy and the love you shared was oh so very special. He will always remain in your heart, as well as in the hearts of all who got to know him through your generosity of sharing your life with us all. Frisco and Ricardo are now reunited…friends together forever. Sending love and healing to you and the farmly.<3<3<3

Oh Shreve! I’ve been checking in to see how Frisco was progressing as it sounded like he was feeling a bit better. I, like most readers, assumed that the love, devotion, special attention and outside-the-box medical treatments you give to your animals would help overcome the vet’s prognosis. I’ve been trying to figure out how to express how devastated I am to hear of Frico’s passing. I wish I could take away the hurt and brokenheartedness from you, Mike, Daisy and the rest of the farmily! We are all feeling those with you! Frisco was a special boy with many adventures – seems like he was always getting into something! I’ll never look at cows (or bulls) the same way after being a part of his journey since birth (dog + horse = cow). I’m so sad to see that his path was shorter than we all would like. Many condolences, much love and huge hugs sent your way from Colorado!!

It may not be the same pain, but I know your pain. Time flew by with that love. it was also too short. For a long while, not a day will go by that you don’t yearn for that love. Then, slowly that yearning will change- you will still love and miss, but it will get better.and if you will keep your heart open, another love will come along that you will wonder- did my giant love send me this new love?!

May your memories and your great love carry you through this most difficult time. Keep your heart open.

Oh Shreve….. I sit here and type this with my heart in my throat and tears streaming down my face… I’m so, so incredibly sorry. 1,568 days just wasn’t enough time on earth with dear sweet Frisco.

Cherish the moments you shared together and hold them near and dear to your heart. I am comforted in knowing that someday, when your time is near, and much like most of us animal lovers here alike, we will all reunited someday in a far away land where time is endless and there is nothing, nothing at all that can hold us back from forever and everlasting love and happiness.

Sending mad love and tons of hugs from near Toronto, Canada. My sincerest and dearest condolences to you and yours.

I lost my Doberman earlier this year and this poem brought me a bit of comfort. I hope it does the same for you. Go gently, dear Frisco. You were so, so loved.

So this is where we part, my friend,
and you’ll run on, around the bend,
gone from sight, but not from mind,
new pleasures there you’ll surely find.
I will go on, I’ll find the strength,
life measures quality, not its length.
One long embrace before you leave,
share one last look, before I grieve.
There are others, that much is true,
but they be they, and they aren’t you.
And I, fair, impartial, or so I thought,
will remember well all you’ve taught.
Your place I’ll hold, you will be missed,
the fur I stroked, the nose I kissed.
And as you journey to your final rest,
take with you this…I loved you best.

When the day arrives no words written or spoken usually help much….But rest assured that pain is worth feeling cause to not experience that connection would be much worse.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Our animal friends fill our lives with love and joy, then break our hearts. Whenever they leave, it’s always too soon. I know in my heart you did everything you could for him, just as you do for all the animals in your care.

Shreve, I am very sorry Frisco died even though you did all you could to save him. Thank you for posting such a heartfelt tribute which connects you, your loved ones, and readers so deeply. I will long remember that Frisco put his head in your lap and took a nap near the end of his life, and your other photos are gems too of devotion, and your words.

I’m so very sorry…we had to put our 16 year old dog down in July, and one of the nicest things someone said to me after that was “if I come back as a dog in my next life, I hope I belong to you”
I am sure all of your animals (and people in your life) feel that same exact way – hang in there.

I came to visit and I see an update that is not worded the way I had hoped. My heart literally lurched and that must have caused my eyes to water. It sounds like you exhausted all known options and comforted your friend until the end. Sighs and interwez love.

It’s been over a year since I’ve checked in on your blog. My heart screamed “No! Not Frisco!”. I’m so sorry for the loss of one of your furry soulmates. You may be the only girl who can say with quite certainty that she has a bull as a guardian angel.

I just saw this, and I’m heartbroken. I remember when Frisco was born and how much love and life he brought to you and yours. The poem you shared is one of my favorites, and has always brought me comfort. I hope it has these past few months and will continue to do so in the future.

    To Frisco!

I was a frequent visitor here when Frisco was born, and I remember sharing your joy in him.

Due to problems in my own life, I had fallen out of the habit of stopping in here. Recently I decided to come here again.
I was reading your account of the birth of Daisy’s new calf and saw the mention of “Frisco’s death”– which immediately sent me searching the site for more details.

I am so very sorry for you and the rest of the Farmily for your loss, but remember the gentle giant continues to live forever in your heart. Blessings on Leila Francesa, and the joy she is giving you now.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I’ve followed the blog for years and have your book, and then got out of the habit of reading regularly. I’m catching up today and am now sitting here crying over an animal I never met, because you brought him to us with your words and pictures, and we fell for him, too. What a grand life Frisco had, thanks to his people mom and farmily. Thank you for sharing him with us. I see cows and bulls differently now.
