Leila Francesca
☆ July 24, 2014
It has been really hard to get proper pictures of Leila! Part of this is the weather – photography takes the back seat when it is 107°F at 10am and there are a day’s worth of chores (and milking!) to cram into the few cool hours at dawn and dusk.
And part of this is Leila – she is far too excited about being in a body to keep that body still for a photograph! She shows off with a few rounds of little bucks, all four feet leaving the ground at once, then races up to nuzzle my face and neck – she is like a little puppy! Our new favorite trick is for me to sit on the ground and scritch her chest between her front legs; she will then reach over my shoulder and scritch my back with her baby teeth.
When I step away, hoping to fit her into the camera frame, she dashes over.
Most of my photos look like this:
Daisy is so in love.
Thank you for the suggestion of a middle name.
I’m off to milk!

Look at those eye lashes!! Will they stay long , or as she grows older will she “grow into them?”
July 24th, 2014 @ 7:23 am
Love her name and wow, she is absolutely stunning! Love the never ending long eyelashes.
Thanks for sharing,
Jenn

I just fell in love with your new baby. The eyes, the lashes, the whorl in the middle of her face, everything you described about her, reduced me to a pile of mush. Very happy for you & the Farmily.

I like the little spiral-looking patch of fur between her eyes.

That picture of her dashing over is priceless….all of us know the feeling of frustration when we tell our pets to stay so we can get the pic and they dont! She is just too adorable not to smile at! as always, thanks for sharing and starting my morning w a smile.

Leila is such a cutie pie! I almost married a dairy farmer whose calves and their moms also had such long and booooootiful (moooooootiful?) eyelashes. I still kick myself, cudda had my own “farmily.”
July 24th, 2014 @ 10:00 am

She is adorable and love her name. The rescue ranch I volunteer for rescued 3 horse moms & their barely week old foals. 2 moms & babes got adopted righrt away. The other has been adopted by the owner. Well let me tell you the colt (around 2 1/2 mos now) is my latest love. And I too have a hard time getting a decent pic of him. Babes are soooo cute and curious and playful.
July 24th, 2014 @ 10:46 am

Kudos! What a sweetie pie. We’re in the 107f too: yoicks. We’ve adopted tomato beers as an afternoon pick us up- it stays HOT until midnight. Not a morning person so this is kicking my tail what with chores etc. Still: cutest calf I’ve seen this year!!!

July 24th, 2014 @ 4:49 pm
How beautiful! Looks like you’re actually doing well getting photos of her before she gets too close. Most of the photos from the first few days of my filly’s life were close-ups of her nose or eye or cheek.

Just read about Frisco. I am so very sorry. You love your other-humans fiercely and I know this must have been a tremendous loss to you and all your farmily.
