The Rooster Pouf

☆ July 14, 2014

It turns out that one of our baby poufs is a rooster!  Chloe, as I’ve noted before, is obsessed with chickens, and the new ones in particular.

Exhibit A:
crazy chloe
Back in May, when Siouxsie & The Bantams were transitioning outside, Chloe managed to cram herself between the rock wall and their enclosure. She just wants to be as close to them as possible.

For the most part, the chickies ignore Chloe because they are so used to her hovering around.  But the rooster pouf holds his personal space in high regard and isn’t afraid to make that clear.  This game (according to Chloe) / dance (according to me) / fight (according to the rooster pouf) has been taking place every morning for the past week or so, and I managed to catch a bit on video… before they knocked me over with a feather.

Gawd…. so funny!!!!! Such different intentions from both sides. I love the chickens’ background noise. So soothing!

Oh man, I cannot get over how much Chloe reminds me of my dog Riley. Same black eye patches, same mostly-white-with-hidden-black-spots body, same curly tail, same tufts.

That said, I have NO idea how Riley would react to a chicken. I’ve seen him get that intense look, with accompany tail wagging, when faced off with a cat, but somehow I don’t trust him to back off the way Chloe does.

Video of Riley with a puppy from a few years ago (suggestion: mute my obnoxious laughter): https://www.flickr.com/photos/kristan/3852712918/in/photostream/

Dying! He looks so much like my crested rooster, Plucky. I love how he’s a tenth her size and acts like he’s 20 feet tall. And I love how much fun she finds their “game”.

That is one feisty, fearless rooster! Between the rooster and Chloe, I think the flock will be pretty well-protected. Thanks – that was fun.

How utterly delightful – ha! What a love, that Chloe, wagging away and staying just out of beak reach. She had plenty of practice when she was a pup and played w/Charlie. Perfect way to start the day, I’m sure, Shreve. :) Thx a ton for posting this.

I love the contrasting colors between them. Chloe being mostly white with a little black on her head and the rooster being mostly black with a little white on his head.

Chloe is definitely playing with that rooster even if he is fighting with her.

But I wonder, why that bird? There are plenty of other chickens in the yard. Is it because that is the only one that will “play” back?

Now that you have a Poufy rooster, you might end up with some very interesting chicks if you choose to let some of those eggs hatch.

It does look very like a dance between Chloe and the Pouf Rooster. In the end, the rooster wins! I love it! I love your green yard with all the chickens and Daisy and Chloe roaming in it!

It looks to me like Chloe has a new interactive toy. Her tell-tale tail tells all. This really ticks-off the rooster.

Chloe is in lovely physical condition. It is great to see owners taking good care of their pets. I hate seeing fat dogs and cats. So unhealthy!
