Here & There & Everywhere

☆ October 6, 2014

Ahoy, Internet! It’s been a while. I’m glad I entertained and/or puzzled some of you with my shadow self portrait. (It was very simply done: just me, standing in the driveway with the sun behind me and Chloe sitting in my shadow. Phone pic, no manipulation, just a cool moment.
This is the hat.)

tetons

The Tetons, from the back portal of a plane.

My BFF is very sick in Seattle and I’ve spent 22 of the past 35 days out there. My time in airports has been practically nonexistent for the past ten years, and I’ve been surprised and delighted by the all-around wonderfulness of the people I’ve encountered in transit. A welcome contradiction to my memory – TSA agents (angelic! no sarcasm!) and fellow travelers enhanced and enlivened what would otherwise be rather doldrum days at best.

I also hit the Northwest at its best, weather-wise. When we were teenagers, my BFF described the Seattle climate as “living in a big gray dog’s asshole.” When you really let yourself think about it, she’s right. But September is the exception, made of mild sun filtering through pines and gentle breezes carrying the scent of kelp and just a little bit of rain here and there, offering the excuse for a wood fire.

boats

I arrived home from my most recent trip on Friday, and after an epic love relay from the Farmily (who were doted on by Mike during my time away), I cleaned and sorted the week’s awesome egg bounty for the Farmer’s Market and harvested tomatoes from the garden, salvaging what I could from this strange season. While I was gone, Mike put the roof on the barn. It is gorgeous! We put up the corral yesterday, and Sir Baby is the first barn resident (after quality control from Daisy, of course). More on that soon, once I take pictures.

Today, I head into town to look at proofs for the 2015 Charlie Calendar! If all goes to plan, it will hit the press mid-month and be ready for you at the end of October. I know I say this every year, but this year’s calendar is my all-time favorite. I’ll post updates here, along the way…..

Welcome back! Hope your bud is on the mend soon.

There’s something really appealing about that egg photo. I think it’s reminding me of Cadbury Mini Eggs.

Very sorry to hear about your BFF. So glad you could go be with her. This particular summer in the Seattle area has been spectacular so at least there’s that. You are right, September is definitely the best month around here by far! Healing energy sent out!

Pure healing vibes directed towards Seattle!!

You forgot to include the picture of the hat, makes me feel better about my memory lol.

You might have captured me and my hubby in your Teton picture as we were in them at times during our big road trip in September. Made a long loop from Canada to Zion and Sedona then over to Yellowstone with many stops at parks along the way. Yellowstone was my favorite with the cliff dwellings at Mesa Verde a close second. What a beautiful country you have. I blogged it if you still have my site address.

Sorry to hear about your BFF. I hope they are doing better. They need to move your direction and get some of the CLEAN air!

Been missing you on-line too, however, the lady over at the KitchensGraden has been keeping me riveted to my monitor.

And where can I get a hat like yours?

It’s good to get away for awhile. Makes the Farmilie’s (and your) heart grow fonder. Hope your BFF is doing well. Seattle is a place I will visit sometime.

I love the Pacific NW, just love it, and there’s no more lovely time to be there than September/October. So sorry you had to be there for such a difficult reason. I’m praying for your good friend.

I’ll just bet you were inundated with farmily love when you returned. Fantastic to get the roof on the barn before the rugged weather sets in. Sir Baby and Daisy have christened it, so it’s an official farmily residence now. Looking forward to seeing pics when you get around to it. Always so much to do when you return from a big trip. I feel fortunate you could get this much onto the blog. Thanks.

I hail from Vashon Island in the Puget Sound. One of the UW climatologists predicts huge population growth here because of climate change — definitely noticing more sun — we’ll see about less rain …
Grew up in AZ so love to visit your blogs to feel the dryness depicted in your photos.
May your friend be well …

I can’t WAIT for my new calendar… My husband changed the month yesterday, I know, a little behind but he said, “you gonna get another one of these?” Hey Mikey! He likes it!! :)
