Do they still have a mother-daughter bond? Or are they more like herd sisters now?

They look like they are at a cross roads trying to contemplate which path to travel.

I spend some time at the Little Farm and Jewel Lake in Tilden Park, Berkeley. The farm is a wonderful, well maintained place. There is a big, white cow girl in the corral with her roan mother. The farmer “sheepishly” admitted to me that he calls the white cow ‘Snowdrop’ and unfortunately for me and others who like visiting the farm, she will be moving to a larger, private farm in Half Moon Bay sometime this year. I love to observe and photograph her hair/fur, the way it curls and waves at the top of her neck and down the side. She has that great ‘top knot of bone and hair’ between her ears.

Well hello, girls! So good to see you.
So fun to see the pic and think, “oh, there’s Daisy and Fiona, how nice to see those familiar beauties.” It’s like seeing lovely friends and realizing how much I’ve missed them. That’s not a comment on infrequency of posts or anything remotely like that; I’m just reminded of how much I love a farmily I’ve never even met. :) Thanks for this wonderful pic.

I still have Fiona’s “baby” picture hanging where I can see it every day….she looks so much darker and richer in color now. Amazingly lovely and she was just beautiful as a baby, too!
This is so beautiful. It makes me feel light and happy looking at it.

I love your pictures all of them but your cows are just special somehow. I started working at a stable that also has cows and we can’t touch them.(not allowed, I was told the mama’s will kill all calves if I do) then I see how awesome your cows are and feel sorry for ours.

1stepcloser: I think that’s a myth and the farmer just doesn’t want the cows touched for some reason. Poor cows.
Shreve re your tweets. That might be a good deal on that anvil. There are people that collect them. There are all kinds and some are very desirable. My parents have an anvil in their back yard. It was my Grandfathers. It’s probably 100 years old. My Dad brought it from Connecticut. We’re not sure if my Grandfather brought it from Sicily or bought it here. The family joke is that it will be my inheritance since my sister got my Grandmother’s treadle and my Grandfather’s accordion.

You don’t have affordable health care because Wyoming chose not to accept federal money to expand Medicaid, which would have covered you. Pretty hard to blame Obama for your Republican gov (who has since changed his mind about Medicaid expansion) and legislature (who have not).

Lovely photo. Question: do cows get snow blindness? Is that why it appears that they are squinting?
Second question – are there tinted cow goggles to protect their eyes and if so, please tell me they are called cowggles.
