Baby chicks! I love bird-babies. Goslings and turkey babies and chicken babies and ducklings… love them all. Our neighbors have just gotten chickens and I can’t wait ’til there are babies!

How does the collective farmily feel about the new chicken nuggets? Is Chloe still attentive? Would Charlie try and nab one if allowed?

Do the chickens like to follow the cows around as bird flocks do in the wild?

A ~ The mamas are BOSS. They peck at and chase away all who come close (except me), be that dogs, cows, calves, or other chickens. Though John (Mike’s dog) likes to sleep next to the hens and their babies in the straw in the chicken house and that is A-OK with all involved. It’s like he guards them at night.

The babies follow the mamas – they are always in a little group, and generally off on their own, slightly separate from the main flock.

Chloe is fairly interested, but not obsessed like she was with the poufs – though I still keep a very close eye on her when we’re all out together.

Charlie hangs out with lots of birds – magpies and ravens and sparrows – and has never tried to eat them; he watches the babies chicks when they’re wandering around the lawn, but never in a stalking pose or even standing up, just nonchalantly while he’s laying around under his trees.

I imagine Charlie’s lack of interest is a result of knowing he is going to get regular feedings. He has his stuffies to play with so doesn’t need to play with the chicks.

These will grow into black hens like their mothers? Any sign of eggs or chicks from the poufs?

A few more years of this and you’ll be selling eggs on the side for a tidy profit.

    Agreed, they’re adorable. Nice image.

Appreciate the rundown on the various canine reactions; a good way to show how individual all those animals are.

Well, for Pete’s sake – how cute is THAT?!
Loved descriptions of chicken hierarchy, dog & coyote “understandin'” & business as usual w/the farmily.

I’ve been wondering…does Charlie hunt? Like, at all? Or does he not really have the opportunities or inclinations to do so?

Have you given any kind of consideration at all with coenrvting your current web-site into Chinese? I know a small number of translaters right here which would certainly help you do it for no cost if you wanna contact me personally.
