Stephanie Buer is one of my favorite artists – I have this print. I loooove this print.
The original is not a photograph, it’s a painting.
Some people live in the city and have nature on their wall; I live in the country and have urban graffiti on my wall.

I love these paintings! I can’t believe they are paintings! I love the beauty of the decay and dreariness. She captures the depth. Thank you for sharing these Shreve!

That is a cool painting!
One of my favorite artists is Mary-Austin Klein. She’s based in LA and most of her paintings are from the desert or focus on big skies or cool clouds (or all three).

These are amazingly good and detailed paintings. But I find them so dreary and sad to see. Such a stark revelation of our decayed cities all over in so many places and n this country. Sad.

Not sure she’s my favorite artist but more of my favorite inspiration.
I’ve taken up watercolor in my retirement and in searching the web I came across an Australian watercolor artist called Jane Blundell. She has extensive blog posts on color and has written books on color mixing. I’ve bought several colors she’s recommended and have set up limited color palettes based on her posts and really like the results.
I like Zoltan Szabo and have two of his books.
I also like a local artist called Shuang Li. She occasionally has classes but I can’t afford them as yet. Maybe I can justify them when I get a lot better. She’s leading a sketching trip to Italy I’d love to do but again, no money. Not for a week in Tuscany not including airfare. But I so want to go.

I have to bring a picture of a rooster to class next Wednesday. We are painting roosters.
May I have permission to paint Snake or Sir Psycho? I’m asking because I just remembered you have photos of roosters posted her on your blog and you are the copyright holder. No worries I’d be selling the finished product or anything. It’s just to practice in watercolor class. I can’t promise if the finished product would be viewable but if it comes out halfway decent I can mail it to you.

Rural Tennessee gets greenfield development for gun factories, while dirt-cheap brownfield development seems impossible in urban Michigan.
I like the pictures that show springtime plant growth over the abandoned building walls.
Here’s to hoping that concrete recycling and landfilling polluted soil get cheaper in Michigan.

My friend says I can take pictures of things with my phone and then send them all sorts of ways and even post them on blogs and stuff. I’ll try to get a picture of the finished product and put it somewhere where you can see it.
I’m not Shuang Li but I’m getting better every week.
BTW you got me thinking (along with an article about regrets of baby boomers) about that watercolor class in Tuscany. I got to thinking about what I’m waiting for and what I’m hoarding my money for. Maybe I should take a little out of one of my TSAs and go to Tuscany and paint and eat and enjoy myself. What am I waiting for? At least now I can still walk.

Yeah, you’re evil.
Without this post I probably wouldn’t have done anything.
Now I have a deposit on the seminar registration and reservation for rooms in Florence, Sienna, Bologna, Venice and Milan. I have Verona on hold in case friends in the area invite me to their house.
I have a call in to a travel agent to help me book my flight. After things get finalized I’ll buy my Eurail pass.
And it’s all YOUR FAULT. Well, not entirely, but I’m choosing to blame you for me going to Tuscany for three weeks to do watercolor and look at beautiful things.
I hope you’re happy now.

Fred Levy, of the Black Dogs Project. He learned that black dogs are the last to be adopted out of shelters and there first to be euthanized. So he took photos of rescued black dogs, on a black background and made a book. (My dog Chance is on page 33)
