My Little Planet

cabin garden mess

I don’t live in the cabin anymore, so I don’t feel strange about sharing pictures of it now. Just slightly strange for sharing a picture of it in such a state of mess. The kitchen was so tiny!
Doing anything made a mess. Here it is, as photographed from the loft.

A hot plate, a toaster oven, a blender. A mini fridge under the counter.

In all seasons but summer, I did most of my cooking on or in the woodstove.

Once I started gardening, I sprung for a food processor to make as much pesto as my garden allowed (as I was doing in this picture). So worth it! Pesto freezes beautifully and, in the midst of winter, can instantly transport me back those dry, hot, sunny days of August.

No sink. My running water was outside.

Can I ask where you make home now if not the cabin? I just still imagine you in that small space with Charlie and Chloe whenever I think about you guys, haha.

When I look at this picture I see a warm, cozy space that is very organized. The sun shining in on the makings of pesto is glorious. It looks lived in and loved.

“No sink. My running water was outside.” How does that work in winter???

I have the same question as Rae, and I totally agree with Steph!

N ~ not sure what you mean? We all have running water outside to fill stock tanks for the animals to drink from, year round. You turn it on when you need it and it doesn’t sit in pipes.

R ~ part of the reason I moved was because people (edit: people I didn’t know) kept showing up at the cabin randomly, unannounced, and it was so incredibly stressful. So I’m going to keep mum :)

What a lovely nest! Everything you need, and nothing you don’t – you were years ahead of the “tiny house” craze!

Always do a positive spin — “Everything was within easy reach!”

(Positive spins keep me from having nervous breakdowns. :-))

What a wonderful kitchen!! Looks like home!! Ours is a log house too and it seems to inspire many projects all the time. Would have it no other way though! I had a poster that read “A small house well filled is better than an empty palace”. Beautiful and warm photo….sigh.

I love the cabin. I hate that strangers have driven you from it. Now that you’re no longer living in it, do you still use it? If yes, for what purpose? Did Charlie adapt easily to his new digs? Sorry…I’m just being nosey.

Awe, this made me smile and look forward to summer gardening again! Shreve do you have a particular pesto recipe that you make and would be willing to share?

Shreve, I just want to thank you for making a safe space on the internet where I can visit to be inspired and soothed. You have created a community of true beauty and friendship here, in spite of the times a minority of people have abused your trust and impinged on your boundaries. Bravo and thanks for continually sharing in spite of the challenges. I avoid social media but have to use it now in my work and I am always so depressed after I log on to FB or whatever! But I know I can visit your blog, and of course my days start with Charlie. So, just thank you thank you thank you again!

A serious kitchen in an efficient, compact space, and no kitchen is complete without antlers, imho. Thanks for this yummy photo. I hate it that anyone would think it okay to drop in on you uninvited… ever. Ugh. Would’ve driven me nuts. So that’s why you built your new home from all kinds of lovely reclaimed treasures; I’m glad you were able to build it to your specs. I love it that Charlie and Chloe have the most awesome window-launchpad in the world, and you get to have a bathtub and a barn. Here’s to your private paradise – may it remain utterly and completely private, safe and full of beautiful memories.

Hi Shreve. You cabin looks somewhat like our home.

I have been following your blogs but so far this is the fist I felt like responding to.

I noticed it today as Kristi and I flew over Wyomin to spend some time in Michigan with my daughter.

Shreve – none of us want to think we’re being nosy, but because you’ve made us privy to your life in the cabin I think we’re kind of shocked you’re not there anymore. That’s where we see you in our mind. Please share with us someday what and when the move and all happened!

Is this the place you built with the tile floor and wood stove and loft? I so enjoyed hearing about every renovation project with before and after photos.

I don’t get how perfect strangers could show up unannounced. I thought you were way out of a town that was really tiny. You are so out of the way, how could anyone but someone you know just show up where you live?
