Temporary

temporary

At the end of a big project, I am a mess, my house is a mess, I am sleep deprived, my animals are slightly neglected. And I have to remind myself it’s temporary. Soon the project will be done, and I will sleep and I will vacuum and I will cuddle all the animals, great and small, with nothing else on my mind.

Oh, Shreve! I hope you don’t think you’re alone in this! I think it goes just as you describe for most of us! I’m in the middle of such a period as we speak, and just today have enough of a break to get some laundry done!

Take care of yourself, too. The other things can and will wait forYOU.

The beautiful photo reminds of the word “perspective”–sounds like you have it!

Got enough milk for a soothing bath? Nighty night. Take a few days of solitude to bounce back, not just one or two.

YES! I remind myself of this daily lately, though I think maybe just remembering that all is really temporary, I might yearn for otherwise less.

A concept so difficult for me to truly accept even though I know it to be so as well. It so easily leads to even more stress. Namaste.

We all need down time to replenish our reserves. I actually just read an email from Andrew Sullivan who discontinued his The Dish blog about a year ago. I had been a subscriber to that blog and he was updating about taking a year off to wind down from the ceaseless daily blogging he had been doing. His post about realizing how taxing that had been even while it was very rewarding to communicate with so many dedicated readers reminded me of your post here a few weeks ago about your own struggles with becoming too consumed with writing for an audience on a more daily basis. He is going back to long form writing and occasional articles for The New Yorker as he decided the blog form was just too much of an addicting and wearing form of writing. I have read very few blogs that I stuck with except for yours, his and Ta Nahisi Coates, and even then I have sometimes found it became a sort of ‘chore’ to read every day. We each have to find our own limit in everything we do.

At least you are at the end of your project. I bought a house in September and started packing thinking it wouldn’t be long before the contractor built an extra room and did a few other little jobs. I didn’t take into consideration about getting permits, then the county said that it was a remodel on an old house and everything would have to be brought up to code–new wireing, new plumbing and new wider windows. then there was rain, lots of it. I hope to move in in about a month. Meanwhile, like you I really need to vaccuum and dust but don’t feel like it.

I agree with Marg…this requires a milk bath! Take care and be proud that you completed a project.

Totally and utterly get it. Hang in there. Revel in the delicious sense of accomplishment… and a mill bath, of course. Sweet dreams. xo

Isn’t it great to completely LOSE yourself in something? Until you look around. ;)
