Snippets: Nearly Spring Edition
☆ February 21, 2017
The moon the other morning….
—–
All the snow melted last week. It went from knee-deep snow to ankle-deep mud in three days. I got legit depressed, like the way you feel when a visiting friend leaves and you know you won’t see each other again for nearly a year. Not that we won’t get more snow – we surely will – but deep winter is officially over, and I really, really love deep winter, loved it even more than usual this year. Dusk at 4pm and candles lit by 6pm; the quiet (unlike all other forms of quiet) of walking in the snow while it’s snowing; chopping ice from the water tanks with the big ax; the glitter, everywhere, on sunny days…..
Spring sure knows how to flirt, though. When it comes to seasons, if you can’t be with the one you love, love the one you’re with. The last few days, I’ve woke to birds singing, and yesterday a friend and I lounged in the sunshine while brainstorming a new project. I cannot say these things are not delectable.

Ivan update: he is the only cat I’ve known who runs TOWARD the vacuum and tries to play with it.

From the department of long time coming, I have created a Charlie Fan Art page, an ever-expanding showcase of *your* pictures of Charlie. I put the first batch of art up this weekend. Check it out HERE! And send me your work!

Love love love the art site. I won’t be sending my version lol, I’m a frustrated artist that can’t get what is in my head down my arm to the paper. I like the snow scenes you described but honestly can’t wait for spring so I can walk safely without the ice.

LOVE the art site!!! Several of those people need to enter contests or making greeting cards or something, they are amazing artists!!!!!

The moon photo is beautiful. And I understand what you mean by deep winter. In the Northern Shenandoah Valley this year—we only had about one and one half inch of snow. I feel as if I have missed something.

These beautiful pieces of art make my heart happy. I’d like to thank the talented artists, and thank you for sharing them.

Your photo of the moon at sunrise is a stunner! That should be the photo for February on a calendar!

Any more pig sightings?
Love the art – love Charlie!

i know what you mean about deep winter — i love it too. it’s the only time when hibernation is deemed legit rather than anti-social.

A coyote with his own fan art page…. perfect. Beautiful capture of your Wyoming sky; perhaps one of the reasons you decided to move there after only passing through. There is nothing as wonderful as happy birsong!

Do you use your cell phone to take such photos?? Or are you a camera photo taking only person? :)
February 21st, 2017 @ 5:18 pm
V ~ I use both! This was with my real camera :)

I love the art! Lots of talent!!!
I understand how you feel about winter, but I was never a big fan and the older I get, the more I look forward to spring. (I’m terrified of falling on the ice.) But since you love deep winter, I’m wishing you more snow!
Hugs (and snowflakes),
T.

Will there be a Farmily art page eventually?
Next week my watercolor class will be doing mammals and I’m going to try to do Daisy.
I already sent you the painting of Snake and his owie.
It will be a few years before I’ll try Charlie. Fur is hard.

I so connected with your comments about the season changing. For me it’s kinda like a transition from one friend to another. Sigh.
And thanks for the “Charlie” art – love, love it!!

Winter is my favorite, too! I grew up in Buffalo, where I spent my winters making tunnels in the front yard, full of secret nooks. I think that is where I learned to love the smell of snow, tucked away snug under the pristine white blanket.
Now that I’m in Cincinnati, where we’re lucky to have the grass completely covered once per year for even a full day, I feel the lack of a real winter keenly. I compensate with making the indoors as cozy as I can, but it’s not the same as my secret nooks in the snow.

One of my moments of pure bliss is waking under the full moon when it is lightly snowing. My world becomes a walking meditation .
Thanks for sharing the art.

My brother had a cat that loved to be vacuumed with the attachment. He would not let you finish until he got his turn!

The Charlie inspired art work page is wonderful! Isn’t it great to see how many people that you and Charlie and Eli and all of your animal friends inspired?
Be well, and enjoy the spring!

I love your art page!! And that is hilarious that Ivan runs toward the vacuum to play with it!! He sounds like a character! :) Hope you have a wonderful day!

Love the art page, keep those photos coming.
February 27th, 2017 @ 12:37 am
Love that picture!
When I live in CO we had an early thaw (not the ski areas & high altitudes) and the mud was awful, the snowmelt was amazing. The thaw/freeze cycles were nuts. I feel you. And epic, record rain in NorCal has been an incredible season of abundance.

We never hit our deep winter stride here in northern Indiana this year, our winters have been trending this direction for several years. I miss my winter! Also, finding ticks on the dogs in February adds to the disconcerting feeling of a lost winter.

The Charlie art is so wonderful! I hope you have more to add to it!
The moon with shrinking snow and amazing lighting is so wonderful too! I also love the hush when it snows, when it sparkles in moonlight and shimmers in the buckets of ice that need breaking. People with outside animals know these things well if living in areas where snow takes over for awhile!

Those are great to see! Thanks.
I don’t remember seeing photos or stories about Ivan, the new cat. I would like to!! ;-)

The Charlie art is great, love looking at the pictures of hard work by all!
Do you have pictures of Ivan posted anywhere and was he the only new cat??
