Rudolph, The Little Red Reefer

☆ December 5, 2017

booksHRD

I am totally Santa. Yesterday I drove merrily through the snow, my little red reefer truck laden with gifts. My local post office can’t handle such volume (there is but a pickup truck with a topper running between our post office and the bigger post office in the neighboring town), so I loaded up several hundred boxes of books in my reefer truck and delivered them to the loading bay of the big post office. So exciting!

I am still far from done.

Here’s the book status: I got the books two weeks later than expected because when they left the book binder, they were loaded on a truck that went to California. I still don’t know the full story on that because I was out of my mind with stress and frustration. And once that truck got back to Wyoming, it had to wait out a disastrous wind storm. I finally got the books Thursday (Nov 30) and have been packing like mad and driving them to the big post office every other day.

– All international orders are en route.

– All orders of two or more books (this includes signed and unsigned books) will be en route as of tomorrow (75% are already en route).

– About 1/3 of the unsigned single book orders are en route. I’ve been going in chronological order from when orders were placed (April orders shipped first, etc). All single unsigned book orders will be en route by the end of this week.

– My goal is to get all single signed book orders en route by the end of the week, too… but the signed and personalized book orders take TIME. Even with two banquet tables set up, I can only sign a certain number of books at once (I leave them open for a bit to make sure the ink dries completely) and then I must wrap, package, and box each order one by one to ensure each personalized book goes to the right person with the right shipping label. There’s no way to “assembly line” the personalized book orders so packing is less efficient and takes longer. Know that I’m going at 5000% to get these done beautifully and packaged safely and off to you as quickly as possible.

– All books are shipped via Priority mail in the USA. The USPS cutoff date for Christmas delivery via Priority mail is Dec 20. All books will be en route well before that date.

– If you NEED your book by a certain earlier date, feel free to email me and I’ll make sure it goes out asap. Please be aware that such requests entail rearranging my computer shipping program and this takes time, adds work, and pulls me away from packaging books for everyone, so use this option only if absolutely necessary for gifting, etc.

I’M SO EXCITED FOR YOU TO SEE THE BOOKS!!!!!
thank you thank you ho ho ho

What a huge job!! Thank you for all your efforts! I received my book and it’s beautiful. I was so worried USPS would leave my treasure in my building’s lobby (and someone would snatch it as anything goes ’round here), but a happy mail carrier knocked on my apartment door this morning (thanks to your handwritten instructions, in your lovely printing on the package). The cover (not the pic I chose, BUT a perfect pic) and back cover are brilliant together. Don’t want to spoil anything for those who haven’t gotten it yet! aloha~~~

So happy to see this, just now because I was thinking of you and wondering when I would be receiving my book. Wow, thanks so much for doing all the work that you are to get them out to us. I can’t wait to get mine and see what it looks like. I was one of the last ones to order, because I am so broke so I felt selfish spending the money on this, but felt so driven to get this. Kind of my Christmas present to myself to get a signed version. Thanks for all the time you are taking to get these out to us. Wow!! I hope they turned out the way that you imagined them to be. Merry Christmas to you!!

Shreve, I just received my book today (thanks!) and it is simply MAGNIFICENT! You have truly outdone yourself. I began reading passages and alternately smiled, laughed, and cried. Hi Shreve, I just downloaded the digital version. The pictures are so lively, it’s like I can touch and feel Eli & Charlie’s fur by just looking at it! Beautiful job.

Just wondering… are the credit for the ppl actually worked on the book or the ppl who ordered the book? My name is very rare, I’ve never met single person with the same name, yet I spotted it in the “Trickster Credit”. Either way, I thought it was cool and wanted to mention it.

Thank you again and Happy Holidays to the whole Family :)

My gorgeous book arrived on Friday! It is wonderful and so worth the wait. I wrapped it and it is under the tree. I will enjoy the leisurely stroll through it on Christmas, rather than rushing through it now during this time of crazy. I had to peek at it just a bit, though, when it arrived. Thank you for the loving care that went into taking the pictures and for selecting the right ones for the book.

You know how much a full wheel of aged Parmigiano-Reggiano costs, right?

BTW when I went to Italy last year I toured a place outside of Bologna where they make it. I saw the process from cooking the milk to the finished wheels stacked in the warehouse. I got to buy some at discount straight from the factory. I still have some.

If you really want a treat, get yourself some 25 year aged DOP balsamic vinegar and drizzle it on some vanilla ice cream.

I’ve got an address where you can get both but it will run three figures easy.

I received my book yesterday. I cried reading about Charlie’s “Fancy Sit.” My Scottie dog Pip had a fancy sit, too — something he came up with all on his own, an advanced begging pose that always made me laugh. I miss him.

I received my book on Wednesday (in FL), what a special present from me to me! It was so amazingly wrapped, with love and beauty, from the sparkly tape on the tissue paper to the paw print sticker on the protective cardboard, prettier than I could have imagined and that was before I even got to see the book! I’ve been following your love story for Charlie (and farmily) since almost the beginning and so appreciate all of your work, photos and writing. I couldn’t start reading it right away because I know I won’t be able to put it down once I start. Thank you Shreve, for sharing your story!

I totally second the above comment by Lynn. The book is stunning, and such care taken to detail of packing and presentation. You are an incredible artist. I too have followed from the beginning of your story with Charlie. Thank you for letting us into your world and spreading such love.

Mine arrived today and it is awesome. Coffee table is right as I want to display this for all to enjoy. No hiding it away on a bookshelf. I especially like that every once in a while, you include a page or two of the life Charlie leads and your interactions with him.

I know you’re recovering and all that, but I just want to put in a plug for the rest of the Farmily. I know you’ve taken photos of lots of things besides Charlie. Perhaps in a few years time you might want to put out a Farmily book. Charlie can be included of course, but it can have Chloe, Sage, Mushy, Rue, Ivan, Daisy, Fiona and the rest of the gang. Chickens too of course. And some of those beautiful sunsets and snowscenes. Just a little something to get your mind thinking and the juices flowing. Keep it in the back of your mind.

My wife got the book but didn’t tell me and wrapped it up for a Christmas present. Well, I love it! Amazing pics and I could never pic a favorite. The whole thing is really well done. Bravo Shreve and it’s something I will treasure. The words…. wow, I didn’t expect the depth to them. I felt like I took a journey with you and learned a lot in the process. I won’t spoil it if others haven’t read all the way through but, damn, this is really great stuff here. Not your run of the mill picture book that’s for sure!
