Shreve- I’ve always loved your photos but THIS one is perhaps my new fave. There are SO many stories going on here, a farmily meeting while the rest of the world goes about its business beyond the fences.
I love the interactions between the critters that you so often catch.
Keep on keepin’ on!
April 14th, 2010 @ 8:54 am
aww, he doesn’t look that mean…
he is cute.
April 14th, 2010 @ 9:00 am
I love this photo! It’s easily my favourite of the “farmily” photos yet!
April 14th, 2010 @ 9:01 am
looks like a scene from a disney movie…=-)
April 14th, 2010 @ 9:01 am
Well if this isn’t the cutest thing to wake up to. This would be a wonderful children s book, the possibilities are endless with your bunch and since you are already an accomplished writer I think you should go for it Shreve.
April 14th, 2010 @ 9:25 am
be still my heart, this is one priceless photo! LOVE!
April 14th, 2010 @ 9:31 am
I love it! The bovines look completely captivated by what Ricardo is saying!
Thank you again for sharing your farmily with us!
April 14th, 2010 @ 9:31 am
LOL! Fun photo! He looks like a character!
April 14th, 2010 @ 9:33 am
I love how they’re all down on the same level. Great shot!
April 14th, 2010 @ 9:37 am
Darling Picture!
Heard the first whippoorwill of the season last night. Do you have them in Wy?
April 14th, 2010 @ 9:51 am
Such a fun picture!
April 14th, 2010 @ 9:51 am
Love it!
April 14th, 2010 @ 10:10 am
Sir Baby looks terrific, Daisy rules though. It’s like a fairy tale picture :
Ricardo comes over to tell the latest news to the tribunal of the wise cow and bull.
” I am telling you guys, there is a new girl in the Jelly Bean she has tattoos and all and she tried to kiss me.”
April 14th, 2010 @ 10:16 am
Daisy and Frisco say “Yep, we’re listening…”
April 14th, 2010 @ 10:32 am

April 14th, 2010 @ 10:43 am
Oh my goodness, that is just adorable!
April 14th, 2010 @ 10:45 am

I love Sandy’s idea too.
April 14th, 2010 @ 10:58 am
Wonderful photo and like so many of yours a picture is worth a thousand words!
Happy belated b-day to you Shreve and to Charlie.
April 14th, 2010 @ 11:31 am
OMG I love this pic.
April 14th, 2010 @ 11:48 am
And then I died laughing.
April 14th, 2010 @ 11:51 am
This is by far one of my all time faves!!! This is truly worth a thousand words!
April 14th, 2010 @ 11:52 am
There’s a familiar pose! Was this snapped just before Ricardo let out a mighty “WONK” of self-righteous indignation? We used to have a White Chinese goose named Spud, so this brings back memories. :)
April 14th, 2010 @ 12:32 pm
OMG I couldn’t stop cracking up!!! it does look like a serious councel.. he is telling them something and they are listening..hysterical..I wonder what he is saying..if we only knew!.I think your next book should be about your animals ..all of them and thier interactions… seriously

April 14th, 2010 @ 1:07 pm
Love the photo and reading all the comments!
April 14th, 2010 @ 1:12 pm
Even if you had Photoshopped that it would be funny.
April 14th, 2010 @ 1:12 pm
This has to be the sort of thing that brought about Charlotte’s Web, Freddy and the Ignormus, and other charming classics of barnyard animals plotting and planning amongst themselves… lol Fabulous picture!!
April 14th, 2010 @ 3:54 pm
Is that Frisco??? He is getting soooo big. I love the picture. We need to see one of Sir Baby (who isn’t a baby anymore) now.
April 14th, 2010 @ 4:20 pm
*chuckling*
April 14th, 2010 @ 4:35 pm
ahhh!
shreve – is this one available as a print?
April 14th, 2010 @ 5:11 pm
Awwwwwwwww… so cute! Richardo looks like he’s lecturing the cows who are bored to death!
April 14th, 2010 @ 5:12 pm
I think that this is my fav pict you have put up yet! (including Daily Coyote picts). Just fantastic! Thanks for putting a smile on my face at the end of a particularly hard day!!
April 14th, 2010 @ 6:01 pm

April 14th, 2010 @ 6:01 pm
Thank you for the link for “shoes I want to be buried in”….while perusing it, I saw the link to the “http://www.heifer.org/”.
This solved a gift idea problem for an old dear friend… plus many many more gifts in the future. Please share this site with everyone!!!
April 14th, 2010 @ 6:15 pm
Shreve, windows did it’s shut down thing, so if this is a double post forgive me.
It’s easy to tell when animals are loved 100%, they’re calm and relaxed and behave authentically. Your farmily is so loved, each and every one of them that they feel free. These picture are a tribute to your loving care as much as to your photographic skills.
PS: Ricardo is such a character, I can see a whole series of Ricardo children’s books, ie: Ricardo tells a tale. Ricardo gets into every kind of trouble imaginable. Just let him do his thing, he’ll give you the titles.
PPS: Tell me that there weren’t wombats who didn’t know that Sir Baby was a bull :)
April 14th, 2010 @ 7:12 pm
How did Ricardo get his name? I’m curious…
April 14th, 2010 @ 7:29 pm
That is the best image on this site yet, but I’m sure you’ll top it. Ricardo definitely has gravitas, as the Romans would say. He’s on top of the situation (whatever it might be) and then some.
April 14th, 2010 @ 7:43 pm
I hope you make posters out of this one. Charming, sweet, and a reminder that farm animals are people, too.
April 14th, 2010 @ 7:49 pm
Ricardo is the most confident-looking animal I’ve ever seen. Obviously, his farmily members believe everything he says – and who wouldn’t? I look forward to more Ricardo tales – thanks!
April 14th, 2010 @ 9:14 pm
This is my absolute favorite photo of yours. For some reason it just really humbles me and makes me realize how petty I can be sometimes. These animals know none of that. They literally live for the moment. So precious!
April 14th, 2010 @ 10:17 pm
AAAHAHAHAHA!! YESSSSS!!
April 14th, 2010 @ 10:20 pm
OH, that is just precious.
And the cows make it look like Ricardo is pontificating on something really profound.
It’s nice to see the bond Daisy has with Sir Baby hasn’t been usurped by Frisco. Or is that Frisco? He couldn’t be that big already. Could he?
April 14th, 2010 @ 10:23 pm
Okay.
I have it.
Ricardo is telling the bovines the story of Christmas dinner. And the punchline is: “And then they ate me.”
April 14th, 2010 @ 10:29 pm
THIS made my day!
April 14th, 2010 @ 11:18 pm
that’s Frisco! He’s huge already (though Sir Baby dwarfs him). In pics, you can tell them apart by the horn buds!
April 15th, 2010 @ 5:39 am
Oh Shreve…..I love that photo….actually I love all your photos! I can hardly wait to check your web sites in the morning to see what’s new. I feel like I know all your adorable creatures. You are such a bright spot in my day. Keep them coming!! :)
April 15th, 2010 @ 6:17 am
For some reason this reminds me of being trapped in the car as a kid, with mom lecturing us about this-or-other. She’d wait until we were strapped in, and we were good and trapped.
yes mom, yes mom, of course mom, sorry, mom.
Daisy and her baby are both SOOOOO gorgeous. I love cows!
April 15th, 2010 @ 6:20 am
LOVE this SO much *LOL*
(Hope you had a wonderful B-day)
April 15th, 2010 @ 6:58 am
Awww, Ricardo, Daisy, and Sir Baby are so cute! I don’t understand why some people think animals don’t talk and communicate.
April 15th, 2010 @ 10:22 am
I cannot believe it is Cisco, my god, so Sir Baby must be gigantic….Where is he ?
April 16th, 2010 @ 3:08 am
I think I see a competitor for the “California cows” commercial. Your cows are sooo much cooler!
April 16th, 2010 @ 10:39 pm
“And furthermore, my barnyard compatriots…” – caption courteousey of my Mom.
(Oh dear, there’s another Siobhan here! That almost never happens!)
April 18th, 2010 @ 2:57 pm
Love this pic. Quick thought – saw ad on TV for AFLAC – 10 year anniversary – they are looking for 10 second video clips. Winner gets 25,000 bucks! Ricardo looks like their mascot. If I remember correctly – aflac/10second is the web site to search for rules. Would be a winner – Ricardo “talking” to the cows with some clever words written? Pam
May 1st, 2010 @ 11:35 am
As adorable and humorous as this priceless pic is, what struck me first was – um, this is going to sound funny – the respect of Daisy and Frisco as they listen to Ricardo and make eye contact with him.
Also loving Daisy’s Dr. Seuss-like top knot. Reading a book while leaning on her warm, calm body must be the most delicious time in the world. If you get to do that and ride Ranger on the same day, you must have to be tethered to the earth to keep from flying away with joy.
August 24th, 2010 @ 2:02 am
They take him seriously! That’s adorable! You should make a children’s picture book about all this “The Farmily”
March 21st, 2013 @ 9:06 am
I would love to read a comic book with line drawings of Charlie and your Farmily. Would you consider doing a comic book as a type of storyboard first?
It’s funny, I was just thinking that no sooner do you post an update, and we’re longing for more. A comic book would satisfy our interest in the Farmily, and it would preserve your lifestyle.
We certainly are fortunate that you share with us all that you do. I am highly interested in making sure that your quality of life is maintained in the process … though I’m sure you’ll be looking after that yourself. Just putting in my 50cents worth!
