Poor things! But I suppose hay is a good reward for getting tossed in the gusts!

Such an attentive following! Ah, the memories of haying cattle when visiting the family ranch…

Angela ~ have no fear, those calves are having a ball ~ we call it the “scampede” (scamper + stampede = scampede) which is what these frolicking calves do nightly regardless of weather!

It’s a fabulous picture. The tones are great. The plant in the foreground is a nice desert and dust feel.

Haha, that calf in the front looks a little out of control and happy! This is a beautiful picture as well Shreve. Love the tones.

Your fabulous photos look even better on my bright and shiny new iPad! I’ve really loved all your photography, thanks for bringing beauty into our lives.

Great shot. The calves look like they’re having a ball.

I love cattle ballet…:O)

i love the little one in front — it looks like the wind is pushing him/her along and she’s just saying, “weeeeeee!”

whoa – what an image! thanks for the clarification of “scampede” – they do look focused. I’ve also been reading a shepherdess blog and she has video of lambs spontaneously bouncing. I guess all little baby critters have cute antics as they learn everything! That’s what makes this time of year so grand.

I love how you never see a cow gallop or canter or whatever they do… it’s usually just a lazy trot. In this picture, the calf in the front is doing a crazy combination of everything that ever exited. Only you could get this shot! Haha

Beautifully evocative shot.

great post as usual!

I agree with Lisa, before I looked at the comments all I could think of was Wheeeeeee

Beautiful photograph Shreve. Being down here in Denver, we get some of the same winds. I can taste the grit, feel my hair whipping, and smell those cows. Thanks. Surely you have been approached about doing a professional show?

when I saw this pic, I thought of a gentle tornado blowing cows around and that music from Wizard of Oz started running through my head…

Wow! My family and I have had cows for years, and i never tire of watching a “scampede!”
