Trailing to The Mountain

☆ June 27, 2010

trailing to the mountain

I jumped out of my truck (after my little inter-state jaunt),
tended my garden,
then swung into the saddle to trail cows
up to their gorgeous mountain summer pasture.

This is midway.
The land below seems so far away.

And on the mountain, there’s nothing
but
the mountain.

It’s heavenly.

Glad you survived your brush with urbania; I’m sure the Farmily was properly appreciative of your return.

Googly moogly, what a view! Red-green earth, white-blue sky, black cows… Wow.

    Definitely gorgeous!
The larger cow has a freaky red eye.. is that just a resizing artefact..? :)

I still don’t understand what the heck your cows eat there. All that I see is red dirt and a few clumps of something, lord know just what that is.

Moving lots of cattle Monday and Tuesday mostly to market.

Hot today, near 90. BBQ at Lick Observatory most of the day

    @Kazza, I think that’s the ear tag.

Kazza ~ HA! that’s the pink eartag!
Tony ~ they have thighhigh grass, it’s luscious. though they did enjoy eating the flower pods of a cactus (I’m blanking on the name at the moment) in the lowlands…….

Most of your images, perhaps because they are more photogenic, are seen by us. I would like to see the tall grass lands with cattle in it.

Is your summer pasture in the higher parts of the Big Horns?

We’ll be trailing cattle this afternoon from one pasture to another where there are loading chutes. Film at eleven.

    What a picture!

Tony who attended a BBQ at Lick Observatory — are you one of the people who runs cattle on San Antonio Valley Road? I spent a lot of time on Mt. Hamilton Rd. and San Antonio Valley Rd. last fall, documenting the geology exposed in the roadcuts. If you remember a fat woman walking along the road carrying a rock hammer — that was me!
