Blogging is really the last thing I want to be doing right now. I’d rather communicate with envelope and stamp. But I’ll keep trying.

Daisy’s milk is so delicious it’s unreal. Like someone poured sugar in it. So sweet and rich.
This mountain grass is good stuff.
This mountain makes cows happy.
This milk deserves to be shared but I’m the only one here to drink it.

My little carnivores drink it, too.
And fully appreciate its sweetness.
They love it here, too. I haven’t seen Eli this content in a very long time.

I miss Mike to a degree that is painful. I know he misses me as hard – does this make me happy, to be so loved? Or sad, because I don’t want him to ache?
Both.

I have the most unattractive tan lines.
Cutoffs + cowboy boots. Don’t try to visuallize, it’s pretty awful.

If you don’t feel like blog posting, maybe these people would help you out? They already do it in one direction: Turning emails into handwritten letters with little tokens.

    Shreve,
The part about Mike brought made my eyes water. I love it when you share how you feel about Mike.
I want to taste some of Daisy’s milk. Sounds so yummy. I am picturing the mountain in my head and it seems heavenly. :) Happy Day!

The ache for Mike sounds wonderfully sweet. If only we all had those tan lines *sigh*

Cutoffs plus cowboy boots give you the tan lines of someone who does honest work for a living. Be proud of them!

For some reason I thought Mike was coming with you, but now that I read back, you don’t really mention it. I hope he comes up for a visit now and then….

I thought Mike was going with you too, but now that I think back, I guess someone has to stay back to take care of the special case cows and Ricardo. Just remember absence does make the heart grow fonder and I would much rather snail mail you then type on the comment section.

haaa funny. rancher tan. i thought i had a nice tan going from wearing shorts, turns out it was just a layer of dirt that needed scrubbing. don’t forget to lift the cowboy hat off the head now and then, to keep from getting skunk face to go with your knee socks. baaahaaaaa!

Hey, I cannot imagine even having a tech device in such a setting. Bless you for keeping the homebodies clued in. It is appreciated.
The trailer is sweet and I love your fabric choices. I almost would like to stay in it, but I’m a Hyatt girl and I can’t help it.

Yes, just write for yourself, don’t post often, take care of the Babies and we will meet up at the end of the adventure, as long as you post the daily Charlie picture, no complains here..
Poor Mike ? What about Monsieur Ricardo, his schedule is upside down and who is looking at him now, he likes to have humans compliment him 24/7….But as long as Eli is happy, all right then…What about Chloe and Charlie ?

Thank you so much for communicating, Shreve. I wish there was a way that you could scan a note to us and have someone post it for you. Solar scanner?

Thanks for the update but only do it when it doesn’t feel like a chore. We love to hear about your adventures but can wait. *sigh* Very sweet of you to let us know your thoughts and feeling for Mike. You two have something very special.

Maybe blog on days of the month that have a 9 in them if they fall on a full moon!

Maybe post a lone photo once in a while? We can use our imaginations to fill in the story. Later you can post the real story.

Shreve, do what you want, but who knows when you’ll have this much solitude in one stretch again.

Cutoffs and cowboy boots. LOL. Too late. I visualize very well. I’m also thinking…hat. Do you have a line across your forehead with a tan face and a white cap on top?

The critters must be in seventh heaven. They have the big outdoors to play in, grass to roll in, milk to drink and they still have their favorite alpha pack member to snuggle and nuzzle near by.

Poor ol’ Ricardo doesn’t know what he’s missing.

I wonder how long you’ll last. A month? Six weeks? Nope. You’re going to take at least a day trip down the mountain sooner than that.

What *are* you doing all day aside from milking, cooking and cleaning? Are you hand writing in a journal? Taking photos? What are you doing to fill a 14 hour day?

Can’t wait for my Wyo dreams to come true. Until then I will live it thru your writing.

Why are you complaining about posting? Either post or don’t. We can handle the wait. It’s so strange to me that you would place yourself in such a remote location and yet bring all that technology with you. It’s really fun learning about your new adventure, of course, but you might want to ask yourself what has changed, other than location?

    Hi Shreve,

My Father with many wise sayings has always told me “distance makes the heart grow fonder”. That came to mind for me when I read your bit about Mike.
I assumed he was spending the summer with you but hope he comes to visit now and then when he can.

Is there anything anyone can do to help? For instance, I have a ton of second hand books in a box I’ve been waiting to find a new home for. Maybe some books would help?

Thanks for continuing to blog. I know so many like myself check your blog each day anticipating a new story for a good laugh or tears.

    Take care,

    Jenn

Why not setup as a daily or weekly “The Daily Farmily”? Pictures and short captions. In late fall you can blog stories about “Super Shreves Farmily Vacation”! Cheers to Americas First Farmily. :-)

I think this is your source of income mostly Shreve but surely we can make do with something much reduced until your return. HOWEVER, if we don’t hear anything we’ll all worry that a bear got you or something so continue with just the “bear” necessities for a post(I know that was limp).

Need pictures of your funny tan. My hubby has a tan that cracks me up. Short sleeves & fingerless gloves on the Harley makes for giggles later in the summer.

Shreve is not a quitter, she has planed that trip for a while, she knows what she is doing. I think she is overwhelmed by the beauty and silence and space. It is the world before madness that she is experiencing, she is on the moon. Minimum tech, a phone, knowing her history a phone and a gun is all she needs.

Thanks, Shreve, for the lovely post – and the humorous description of your tan.

I, too, assumed Mike would be spending time with you on the mountain – at least going back and forth frequently, if not actually staying. But I had been wondering who was watching over the homestead. I’m guessing now that that person is Mike.

Wish I could swap you some books for some of Daisy’s milk.

Sending hugs and blessings to you and all the Farmily!

Hi Shreve, I’m in Rome and away from my husband for 6-8 months for work. What you said about being away from Mike…it rings so true for me too. I agree with people here who have said that you should only post for yourself but I wanted you to know that your posts remind me that life is greater than just living, it’s about experiencing too. Thank you for that. Have a wonderful summer with the rest of the farmily.

Thank you for your snippets. That’s what the summer will be, Shreve’s Summer Snippets!

i think deana’s suggestion to hand write a ‘post’ and photograph sounds like a grand idea!! still lets us share your adventure and allows you to put pen to paper!!
Also, i too have TON’s of books and would be happy to send some.
thank you for sharing your time with all of us
    be safe

Shreve,, thanks for the update but don’t feel an obligation to post on the blog. I just want you to relax and enjoy your summer. You never know when you will have this chance again. You know that we will all be thinking of you and Charlie and all with you there on the mountain and will wait till you feel like you want to share.

Catherine (#30)… and bullets, just in case a grizz comes meandering by, though I’ve decided they’re not in that part of Wyo… period.

Shreve, my heart hurts for you and Mike. You’ll both obviously survive and thrive, but doesn’t it just chap your hide (again with the tan lines) that these adventures we crave and love always come with a price? Ah well… worth it.

If it comes up in someone’s conversation w/Ricardo in the “lower 40,” just let him know we’re all thinking of him and just how handsome he is. That should tide him over until the entire farmily is reunited. Quack.

It makes me happy to think of a contented Eli. You and Mike have a great relationship.

So thrilled your farmily is having a lovely summer. Shreve, you might like John Katz’ Bedlam Farm blog. He’s a writer with a farmily, too.

Re: Cut offs and cowboy boots.
Mexican serapes are great all-weather desert shirts. The coarse weave, loose under-arms, and open bottom allows wind to blow through while keeping the sun off your upper body. They work amazingly well for motorcycling in 100+ F weather. All you need is a windbreaker over top for evenings or rain.

    Shreve,
Thank you for continuing to blog. I know myself as well as many others really appreciate you sharing your summer adventure and daily tidbits of stories/information.
I prefer letters and stamps as well but I have a feeling you wouldn’t have any time for anything else other than writing and mailing people if you did that :)
    Take care,
    Jenn
