Are Daisy and Frisco and Fiona in that mix somewhere? The cow looking back at you in the first picture seems to be saying “Hey slowpoke, but that box down and get us to our lush green mountain grass!”

Oh that is so lovely up there and I can’t wait for the postings with lots of pictures. Ranger looks interested in the area and the others will be too. PLEASE, smash that cell phone when you get home, hate those things.

Have been reading you for several years, Shreve and just finished your Wyoming/Charlie book. These photos really touched a place in my heart. I was raised on the Nebraska panhandle and was lucky enough that a big rancher’s family was also a close friend. We used to spend every Thanksgiving branding calves and banding them – and eating and riding and laughing and working. We were in Wyoming frequently and all these photos bring back hundreds of great memories. See what you’ve done for my day! Thank you! (and I agree with Marg about cell phones)

Yummy pic of Ranger – just enough ear, eye and neck. Methinks he’s been to the horse salon for highlights…
Geez, I love that horse!

I admire the heck out of you. I’ve followed along, haphazardly, on your adventures for about three yrs now . I admire your guts, your compassion and your approach to your world.
Thank you for sharing and showing that it IS possible to be true to yourself and live a life full of richness and beauty without buying into the all the baggage and obligations that “society” says we should carry.

I just love Ranger’s ears!! I want a photo of the for a greeting card. And his top notch hair is so carefree! He makes me think of a young James Dean

Hey Shreve, here is the most low-tech way to cool food if you don’t have a nice cool water supply or spring house. You have probably already come across it in your research; but in case you hadn’t or others are interested: it’s called a Zeel. Clay pots and sand.

Shreve, I have read your book about Charlie and then listened to it on audio, while I worked. Your blog lifts my spirits when feeling the strain of city life. I have a question as well. I am looking to buy a scooter. Since you went so far on yours, what CC’s is it and do you have any advice as to buying one? I figured you’d be a great resource on the matter.

K ~ Mine is 150cc and I LOVE it. It was so great for zipping around San Fran and I could get with the flow of traffic easily (60 mph was no problem).
I’d definitely reccommend not going lower than that ~ a 50cc just doesn’t have the power to give me peace of mind as a rider.
There are new bigger ones these days – 250cc i think, maybe more? This would make a long haul easier for some, as it could go faster and probably do just fine on the interstate. But I’d never trade my 150, it was wonderful and I enjoyed the fact that I had to stay off the interstate and stick to the smaller roads. I don’t think anyone NEEDS 250cc if you’re using it as city/suburban transport. But if you’ll be using it for a two hour daily commute, the 250 might be a better partner.
Go sit on a few, see what feels best to you! So excited for you!
