Yes they are.

…dark and deep. Do you have miles to go before you sleep?
August 15th, 2011 @ 9:36 am
Or any promises to keep?

calming

Exquisite photo – what bliss looks like. How will you ever leave this Eden when the “woods fill up with snow”? (Yet another reference to Frost’s poem – perfectly clever, Harmanica and Rachel.) Thank goodness it is always there for you to visit until you can live there again, should you decide to spend another summer there.

A drawn map or photo of the whole property, please. Where are these woods vis-a-vis the trailer and the spring?
August 15th, 2011 @ 1:23 pm
Beautiful. We just got back from 4 days in the Sequoia’s. I didn’t want to come home. Ever.

I love this picture, it reminds me of my favorite place called Clear Lake I just went hiking there this weekend, beautiful and peaceful. A total mind zen~~

Splendid photo! Lovely, indeed.

Such a contrast to the red soil and sparse vegetation of where you spend the rest of the year. I much prefer this landscape but the other is new to me so would enjoy a vacation in it but could never live there. Must have green around me!

Spectacular!

I loved the woods around my dad’s house in Nova Scotia. Pine, fir, birch, moss, streams, boulders… magical heaven.

What do you use for bug repellent, if anything…and how bad are the mosquitos in those parts?
Thanks in advance…
( we have herbal armour, but it wears off too quickly )

I second Torchy. A map of the area would be nice, even if it’s just a Google Earth clip with a “my trailer here” arrow.
August 15th, 2011 @ 10:54 pm
C’mon, Torchy and Karen,,,,with all that Shreve had been through last year, do you really think that she needs to draw you a map of her space? Use your imagination…I think she has given way too much info already.
August 16th, 2011 @ 7:33 am
yes, no maps please! We can use our imagination. It does look lovely, enjoy all of your time there, sounds like you’re making the most of it.

Love the photo, but I have a question.
What are you doing for protein? Seeing your tweet this morning just made me realize your meat options limited…..
have you done any night photography with the beautiful full moon this month?
August 16th, 2011 @ 9:15 am
to all the people that want maps:
Find your own heaven!
August 16th, 2011 @ 9:37 am
Patr, Meat isn’t necessary to get your protein. Rice & beans will do it.
August 16th, 2011 @ 9:41 am
No arrows please! Details would ruin it for me. The mystery and haunting loveliness would vanish when this place had a fixed place on the planet. Right now it is in my head, everywhere… I could walk out my door and go look for it and maybe find it. Not so with an arrow pointing to it on a map.
August 16th, 2011 @ 10:05 am
Keitha, Rice alone will not “do it.”
“Rice is good a source of protein and contains essential amino acids. Both white rice and brown rice contain 5.2 grams of protein per every 150 grams. So while the protein content in rice is good, it should be paired with other high protein foods in order to receive the maximum benefits.”
Shreve, I’m curious why you decided to do this adventure in the first place.
August 16th, 2011 @ 9:34 pm
Lovely indeed…(you must be Irish !)
August 16th, 2011 @ 10:36 pm
Miranda, Daisy’s pure, organic milk, the lovely cheeses Shreve continues to perfect, and all these new forms of milk she’s discovered, provide a lot of protein. Maybe Mike also brings some elk steaks when he visits, but it’s surprising how little meat most of us really need.
As for your valid question about why Shreve “decided to do this adventure in the first place,” she can obviously answer for herself, but my own personal, unsolicited 2-cents’ worth on why I embark on adventures comes down to this:
1) Why NOT have this adventure?
2) Those of us who thrive on adventure – be it from a restless spirit, an insatiable thirst for new experiences, an obsession about “what’s over there?” or whatever – we simply can’t help ourselves. The rewards are so rich, even astounding, it becomes a craving that can’t be denied. Each successful, wonderful (and occasionally awful) adventure urges us on to the next and nearly always provide some sort of valuable paradigm shift. …And oh yeah …it’s really fun.

Thanks for sharing, also have picture of Mike and Houdini in our FR with all our other horse pictures and paintings, so glad you made it available.

Lovely……..
August 17th, 2011 @ 8:25 am
ahhh you already said that didn’t you! My sediments exactly
August 17th, 2011 @ 9:21 am
Thank you for answering for Shreve Jenny C.
August 18th, 2011 @ 12:31 am
The woods you have where you are, remind me of my woods here. Stunning aren’t they.
Enjoy the wonder.

So magical! Have you come across any woodland nature divas? I believe they would show themselves to you.
