Eli & Rue

☆ April 22, 2012

eli and rue

I’ve been getting a bunch of questions on The Daily Coyote about Eli, and why he’s not in photographs much anymore, and this is why. He runs all night and sleeps all day. All day. Charlie sleeps all night and plays all day so there’s not that much overlap, but when Eli does grant Charlie the thrill of his presence, Charlie is as submissive and worshipful as ever. Both Charlie and Chloe defer to all the cats, actually.

The Farmily began with just Eli and me, and he has been so chill with all the animals who have moved into his house ~ saintly, really ~ and if he doesn’t want to model, I don’t make him model. That’s it!

He doesn’t have to model; he’s lovely in his sleeping pose. It’s good to see his little face again.

So glad that Eli is alive and well. And what a scamp! Up all night huh? Any stories about the other kitties? I loved the series you did on mama and the kittens. More please!

I’m glad to see an update on Eli. I’ve always loved him. He’s such a rake – so cute! He’s got the same name as one of my dogs, so I’ve always thought that was awesome. Rue is gorgeous. I recently read Hunger Games and reading Rue’s name, I’m reminded that I believe you posted once that you read Hunger Games (I’m pretty sure that’s where I first heard of it). Is that where you got her name?

Thank you so much for the update on Eli! He’s another reason why I keep coming back to your blogs. Some of my favorite photos are the ones of Charlie and Eli together. They’re quite a pair.

I would love to put a camera on him and see what he’s up to at night, wonder what the rating would be on the movie lol. He must be getting up there in age now too, can’t recall if you got him as a kitten or if he ‘chose’ you later in his life.

It is good to see that King Eli continues his reign over the farmily. Queen Rue is quite lovely and I’m Eli’s kingdom is quite accepting of her.

Even the Dog Whisperer said that “cat is always the alpha.”

You said before of Eli that “… he’s a cat, and has much cooler things to do than hang out with the rest of us,” or words to that effect. Nonetheless, thanks for the update.

A very feline image: cats play hard and sleep hard. I’ve always thought that their language, properly translated, would have as many words for “sleep” as the Eskimo do for “snow”.

C ~ Chloe is fine too! How ’bout everyone assumes that everyone is fine unless otherwise stated. I’ve been completely honest and upfront with every illness and RIP to date. There’s no need to spend so much time worrying!

Do you still have Rue’s kittens? She is looking very healthy and well cared for. I think it’s so cool that Eli is so “alright” with new animals in HIS home.

Eli in that shot looks a lot like an orange cat my family had years ago. His name was Solomon, and he’s long gone. Blessings on Eli, in his memory.

i too had a cat that looked very much like Eli-his name was Spice and he was a big love! when my girls were little they had strollers for their dolls and would put Spice in them and roll him through the house! thanks for sharing the photo of Rue and Eli-they are both beautiful

Looks like Eli had a rough night and Rue is keeping watch on the peeping camera eye approaching…

I admire Eli. I have two feline wusses who, when we take them to the country, freak out at the presence of rabbits and deer. And they’re INDOOR cats; they freak out even though there are barriers between them and the “strange animals”. They’d be suffering from PTSD if they could conceive of your farmily. And Eli rules over all…

Wonderful picture! Do you have any idea how old Eli is? (I can’t recall the specifics, but think he adopted you? So he was already grown or at least half-grown when he came to stay, if I remember right?) Vets can usually tell something about age by the teeth of the animal, but it is always a guess-timate unless you raised them from a kitten.
