Eli Doesn’t Pose

Many have wondered why Eli, King Kitten, is not in the Farmily calendar. It’s because he doesn’t deign to be. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been out and about with Eli and see him in exquisite light, or against a beautiful and unusual backdrop, and turn to get my camera, and by the time I turn back to Eli – sometimes a mere split-second later – he has vanished. EVERY TIME.

The only photos I have of Eli from the past two years are of him sleeping. Sleeping in a basket. Sleeping on a log. Sleeping next to Rue. Half-sleeping in my chair. And these sneaky sleeping snapshots are always done with my little pocket camera in poor light, and just aren’t good enough to enlarge for a calendar.

Speaking of… calendars are en route, flying to everyone who has ordered, as of Monday morning. I only have about 50 of each calendar left, so if you want one, order soon – it’s a limited edition press run this year, and when they’re gone, they’re gone. You’ve been warned!

I just love his squishy little face! Sleeping or not.
Yay, calendars. I was JUST wondering about them before I saw this post. Woo! Can’t wait.

Yeah! the new calendars are coming! the new calendars are coming!!

I have never had a cat who likes their picture taken— Sometimes it gives me pause to think that maybe their sweet spirits and cameras do not mix?!

Oh Goody! My Farmily calendar is coming. Maybe next year just put what you have of Eli in the calendar—none of us will care that it isn’t photographically perfect, we’ll be happy to have his picture.

My choc lab is like Eli….whenver I come near with my camera….he scoots away! Always catch him in motion!

Awww, Eli. One of the dogs I walk is similar–when I try to take pictures of him he looks away with the most ridiculous “I am not looking at that camera so it does NOT EXIST” face.

Can’t wait to see the calendars in person! I’ve been having a pretty horrible week and seeing Charlie and the farmily would certainly brighten it up. :)

Aw Mr Eli, King of King’s in the Farmily! It is good to see his button nose.

Animals and People are the same – some will look down your lens and you can almost feel their soul looking into yours when you see the images.

And then others – you see a ‘ghost’ nearly. I’m a ghost in photos – I am never quite there in the photographs. My Father on the other hand – FULL ATTENTION. Just like his PERSONALITY – the world SPINS out of control when you get too close to him since he is the CENTER of it.

That is the sweetest face. I think that is worthy of posting/calendar. We all wish we could be in such dreamland!

I was going to say he’s got his ears back in the last shot so knew you were taking his picture, but then noticed his ears don’t sit straight up, very Scottish Fold of him. I’d not noticed that before.

F ~ his ears are nearly half gone from all his bar fights, and what remains is kind of deformed.

    LOL.

I had a dog that I swear was psychic about cameras. He knew when a lens was pointed at him and would stop and pose. For a black dog, he was pretty photogenic too.

Too bad they can’t be used for the calendars. I would enjoy any one of these photos of The Master for a month.

Just got my Charlie calendar yesterday. Every year I think your pictures of him can’t get more gorgeous, and every year they do. He’s looking quite wise and dignified in his older years — I miss his puppy-ish ways (easy for me to say!), but what a handsome gentleman he’s turned out to be.

I also like the new calendar format/layout. Congrats on another awesome Shreve production!

I’m sure Eli looks better sleeping than most of us! Happy to have you share those pictures! I received both of my calendars…couldn’t decide which one to get!! A 7th grade student of mine loves to read nonfiction, and she literally read every book I own in far less time then it took me. She loved The Daily Coyote, so I might just let her pick which calendar she wants.
