More on the Crystal Cave…

☆ October 11, 2016

Thank you to everyone who left suggestions/theories/advice regarding the mystery mineral! I studied your wise words and the landscape and the internet. Many of you were correct: it is selenite, which is a form of gypsum. We do have a lot of gypsum around here, but it’s usually in the form of powdery rocks. I’ve traversed dozens of square miles surrounding the crystal cave and it’s the only spot I’ve seen the crystals.

The name selenite comes from the Greek word σελήυη for moon. Google led me to the Naica caves in Mexico, home to spectacular, enormous selenite crystals… the magical big mama of crystal caves!

Chloe showed no interest in the cave – she walked right past it. There is no evidence of animal use, past or present. It was definitely never used by humans – it is much too small! It is a fairy cave! {or, as JaneK posited, the Toothfairy’s branch office.}

I am so behind in correspondence. I can’t decide if it’s better (or worse) to start at the oldest email – which came in over the summer while I was out of town or otherwise focused on Star Brand Beef – and move forward (which makes the authors of new email wait WEEEKS) or start at the newest email and work backwards (which makes the authors of older email wait MONTHS) and I get paralyzed. I suck. At email. I’m sorry. I have never failed so consistently and for so long (years upon years!) at anything like I have at this. It is something I am still trying to master.

As my aptitude lies in the visual, I have TWO calendars in the works for you and they are AWESOME. One is Charlie, and one is one that will make everyone happy. Charlie also makes everyone happy, so….. prepare for a lot of happiness. I hope to debut them in the next week or so.

.  .  .  .

Weeding one’s mint patch is quite possibly the most wonderful-smelling chore.

RE: emails: You’re NOT failing. You’re a marvel — getting so much done on behalf of all creatures.

Be kind to yourself. Don’t wear yourself out. You communicate with us every day, bringing incredible images, information, and inspiration, beauty, and reality.

You’re a marvel of nature, and we treasure everything you do (and don’t do). Don’t stress about emails . . . sure they must contain many wonderful thoughts, but everyone wants, above all, for you to feel good, feel like YOU, not some hurried replica of yourself . . .

I suck at email too! I email people in mind & send them out in the universe, I have sent you many! On a brighter note we plan to make maple syrup this Spring after not making any the last couple of years & we will send you some!

I suck at keeping my kitchen table cleared. It’s the dumping ground for all unmade decisions and incomplete “to do’s”. At least you can close your email and not think about! :)

Answer 2 old and 2 new. Rest – come back – repeat. Or 1 and 1….. small bites.

You don’t eat an Elephant in all one bite do you?

i have trouble replying to emails too, unless it’s someone i’m totally current with who i can trust to accurately read between the lines of a brief note. the other people matter just as much to me, but it takes more time to formulate a meaningful reply. and i have to be in the mood… :)

I wouldn’t worry about the e-mails. All of us who know you already know you have more on your plate at any given time than most of us do in a lifetime. We love you for who you are and all you share with us. Whenever you get around to responding to e-mails will turn out to be a happy surprise for the recipient. Nobody’s going to grumble they had to wait weeks or even months.

Quite impressive about the selenite! Thanks.

Sending hugs and blessings to all.

As others have said, don’t stress about failing to answer emails. Considering how many you get in the course of a day, how active and varied your life and obligations are, very few of us in this online community are going to feel slighted.

I for one am delighted by the glimpses of your and the Farmily’s lives as shown in the words and images you generously share. Coming from an extended family with strong farming roots, I can relate to your accounts of rural life. And as someone who’s a sucker for all kinds of animals, how you relate to the lives that depend on you warms my heart.

    Ditto to the other comments re email overload. I am so behind on them that my email server is giving me problems! Yuck! So if you don’t get down on yourself about it, I will try not to either! You are just one of many of us with that problem! ;-}

I teach 6th grade (42nd and final year) and am always amazed at the number of emails I receive now from parents as opposed to the number of handwritten notes I would get in the days before the internet. Email can be too convenient. My school district’s policy on answering parent emails — turnaround time of 24 hours. Major groan!

advice from an overworked underpaid peep. answer recent emails with current topics that you care about. delete ALL the rest. you cannot be expected, as a public persona, to respond to every individual request for interaction. not only will those mailers understand… they have also moved on and can email you again if they are adamant.

perhaps… create a form letter. thank you for your correspondence, i am too busy to talk to you you overbearing pushy ‘i have nothing better to do with my time’ cry baby attention hogging wench. or maybe.. let’s hug it out bish, talk to ya next time.

Yes – as others have stated, do not stress over the emails. I am certain that the author of each & every one of them will understand.
    I say, delete-delete and start with a fresh in-box ;-)

I like to think that the picture on this post IS from your fairy cave and that is a really itty bitty guy in the fairy cave! (Otherwise the size of those crystals freaks me out!)

Have you tried Bullet Journalling? For those who love pens and paper it’s the most legitimate excuse to use those things, and it just works (for a lot of people) so it might help combat the email situation.

Mint and tomatoes – if I were a dog I’d roll around in those plants all day long.

The crystal cave you found is very magical. If you stay there for a while you will feel the energy.
If its selenite its melts when its get wet.
I hope you go back and enjoy, so awesome!

You need not to apologize for being behind in emails. You lead a busy, active life outdoors taking care of your land and animals. I am the crazy lady from Vancouver, Canada that follows the life of Charlie, whom I adore. I read your book. Take care of yourself and all those you hold dear, two footed and four footed.

Oh boy. Selenite keeps all crystals and stones energetically clear. (We have some! I wave it over Jack periodically Just In Case He Picked Something Up on His Last Interstellar Junket) A good place, then, to sit and think about nothing and see what comes up. AWESOME.

Love many of the comments & yours. You do excel at living your life & the visual. For me, your posts are enough. No need to reply to my emails, as I indicate if ever I send you one.

    OPTION:
Read subject and use intuition to put in folders with labels on. Week 1, Week 2, Week 3 & Week 4, Urgent & MISC.

I find if I can go through them quickly to Triage, then I know I’m not missing any correspondence relating to urgent business or personal correspondence. (Orders in your case)

I feel a sense of accomplishment. Keep this part of life contained rather than using up all my precious time.

Then set aside a set Day & Time with some wine, beer, or other yummy drink and go through emails on for each week.
    Current and past.

You can book it each week, depending on life. Calving season, people just need to understand you’re only going to get to something if it’s absolutely urgent.

All the ones in Weekly files are PAST or something pertaining to that week in the month. So, if there is something due or bills they don’t get lost in shuffle.

Set monthly schedules and look at it like doing taxes. It can be fun with the right attitude …
Speaking of which, I still need to do my for the past year or so!
Getting apartment organized so I can do it over Christmas. Yay!

Chatty ones can go in MISC that you can read as they strike your fancy – or not at all.

It doesn’t hurt us to understand your life is full – read the blog – it’s soooo obvious!

Rejoice in your life and that emails aren’t the biggest priority. That’s a Victory these days!

I can totally relate to being overwhelmed by email – sometimes I sort by sender or subject just to shake things up, and then I’m not always replying in any time order. Weird, I know, but it works…for me anyways! :)

Can’t wait for the reveal of the SECOND calendar!! :-)

Emails: Alternate. Start with the oldest, then do the newest, and go back and forth. That way, it more or less evens out. Do two in the morning, two in the evening and take a day off every two to three days.
