Farcical Metatarsal

I broke my foot last week. I broke my foot in the most absurd possible way: I was barefoot, having recently gotten out of the bath, sitting at my computer, working. Upstairs, Mike was cooking a pork chop that smelled so good I wanted to smell it up close. My right foot was kind of asleep but I thought when I stood up it would re-activate. I took one step out of my chair and my foot didn’t realize it existed and just smooshed under me into the cement floor and down I went. I fell on top of my foot and the torque of my fall fractured the fifth metatarsal bone. (I asked the ER doc if this is a sign of osteoporosis and he said, nope, purely physics and quite common.)

So now I’m hobbling around in a boot splint. I should be mostly fine by the time calving season starts. In the meantime, I’m working on a huge new project that does not require the use of my feet, which I am so excited to share with you SOON!

Miss Mara

I have been trying to get good pictures of Mara for a year now.

When she sees me, she runs to me ~ and she is as fast as an antelope!

I shoot a few quick frames as she approaches on the trot, but they always end up blurry.

Yesterday, a fence happened to be between us, halting her advance.

And I finally got some pictures of her adorable face.

I’m in the middle of writing a sprawling blog post about What I Did On My Secretarial Vacation but it’s currently seven pages long (I have a lot of thoughts and things to share!) and not ready to post yet. So, in the meantime…..

Hi! I’m back! My January was incredible and I learned SO MUCH. I was not expecting to learn anything, but that’s what happens when you change up your routine – you learn stuff! The Shop is back open with fresh chew toys, new jewelry, and the last of my gorgeous deer antler sheds, and I’ll have that long and winding post for you as soon as I finish it.
